10 Thoughts on TNA Impact – 08.21.2008

Reviews, Shows, Top Story, TV Shows

I am so lucky that I get to do ten thoughts on TNA iMPACT. At least the video game looks cool. I almost won’t buy it out of principle, though.

1. I am sorry, but I just don’t get Robert Roode. Hernandez has the tools to be a “big star,” but Robert Roode just plain sucks. Their match was pretty crappy.

2. AJ Styles should be kept away from a microphone at all costs. He just doesn’t know how to sell a wrestling angle on his own. Jeremy Borash asks him about the guitar, and AJ answers a question about a baseball bat. This is scripted. He should have the answer laid out for him. There is no reason to get the answer wrong. AJ must not have been that good of a student. The ladder match at the end was pretty good. It was kind of nice to see a ladder match more story focused than spot focused.

3. The music for the Murder City Machine Guns is god awful. The masks and paintball vests they wear to the ring are pretty dumb too. It is a good thing they are the best tag team on television right now. Jesus “tapdancing” Christ they lose to Eric Young and BG James. This is fast becoming three thoughts on TNA iMPACT. Then we get some poor sportsmanship (please let it be a shoot) from Sabin.

4. Booker T uses a different bad accent in TNA? Alright?

5. Thus far Matt Morgan is the only guy being booked with some semblance of logic in TNA. Bubba was great on the mic coming out and stating the obvious.

6. Is it just me or is Jeremy Borash a metrosexual version of Mr. Dewey from “Saved by the Bell?

7. For TNA absolutely sucking, this show did have a ton of wrestling and surprisingly little in the way of skits. It had Rooder vs. Hernandez, MCMG vs. Young and James, Mat Morgan vs. Frankie Capone, Booker T vs. Rhino, Consequences Creed vs. Petey Williams, Gail Kim vs. Awesome Kong, and Kurt Angle vs. AJ Styles in a ladder match. I cannot think of the last Raw or Smackdown with that many matches. Most of the matches were poor or worse, but by golly there were a lot of them.

8. Apparently we get that Prince Justice Brotherhood vs. Rock ‘n’ Rave Infection feud we have all been waiting for. Although, I have to admit, Stone Cold Shark Boy calling Lance Rock “Big Lance Bass” was pretty funny.

9. Gail Kim had a great swan song in TNA. Kong is great, but it is a shame that Cheerleader Melissa is hidden under a burka.

10. Despite all of the wrestling TNA did not give me a ton of reasons to tune in again. The show was good, but they are doing nothing to make themselves seem like something beyond WWE-lite.

I’ll see you next time…
