ECW Tag Team Back to WWE?

News

No, not the Dudleyz… the Badstreet Boys!

According to F4Wonline.com, Joey Matthews reportedly cut a promot at a Maryland indie show this weekend saying he and former tag partner Christian York will be heading back to WWE in December.

Matthews and York tagged throughout the indies, starting out in the Hardy Boys’ OMEGA promotion and holding nine different tag team titles, including the NWA World Tag Team Championship. The two were a part of ECW as the Badstreet Boys, and appeared at ECW’s final PPV, and were even under TNA contract for a short time in 2002, and have wrestling with ROH.

Matthews, a.k.a. Joey Mercury, was WWE Tag Team Champion with Johnny Nitro (Morrison) as part of MNM. Since being released by WWE in March 2007, Matthews has worked indies, including a run in ROH as a member of Age of the Fall and in Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW) where he trains the former WWE developmental promotion’s intermediate class.

York retired in 2004, but came out of retirement in 2006 to wrestle with Maryland Championship Wrestling, and wrestled some WWE dark matches before joining OVW (but not under WWE contract).

If this rumor is true, my choice would be to add them to whatever roster Morrison and The Miz are on, and set up an awesome tag team feud, but that’s just me.
