WWE DotCom Delivery – Week of 08/31/08

Reviews, Shows, Webshows

I don’t like surprises. So you can imagine my reaction when I found out that Josh Mathews is not hosting this week’s WTF. But before we get to that, here’s the other stuff on the DotCom this week.

ECW’s classic OMG Moment of the Week takes us to 1998 and Taz’s feud with Bam Bam Bigelow. Tazz and Paul Heyman introduce the clip from January 98’s Living Dangerously PPV, a match for the TV title between the two. This clip shows us the Undertaker did not invent breaking the ring (nor did Big Show and Brock Lesnar). Nice moment and they also address the aftermath of that match.

Word Up introduces us to the word BROHAM, meaning a tight personal friend or a term of endearment between two homeys. But make sure you don’t confuse it with BROMANCE because this thing is a non-no in the hood. Or so they tell us. You know, if there was bromance between Shad and JTG, Shad would be the b*tch and JTG would be the butch, even though he’s the smaller guy. That’s the vibe I’m getting from Word Up. They also cite Miz & Morrison as an example to bromance, but we’ll get back to that later.

Now that the Matt Striker seems to be a full time commentator, I don’t get why he continues to do Best WWEek, Worst WWEek. It’s not like it’s helping develop his character as a wrestler, gives him more camera time or improves his already good mic skills. And let’s face it, it’s not one of the best DotCom shows. But still, he manages to include Missy Hyatt and Barack Obama in the same sentence, and that’s something I’d never witness, so kudos to him. Anyway, Striker is apparently a republican and he declares that Barack Obama, together with democrats and liberals had the worst WWEek while the entire WWE roster had the best WWEek, because they don’t have to worry about facing Striker in the ring. Okay.

Things pick up as we enter Santino’s Casa. Santino plugs http://www.smackdownyourvote.com and tells us that there’s a large movement to add Santino as a write-in candidate. He presents his platform, including mandatory manscaping and his “woman in every kitchen” plan. His education plan also seems promising. So vote Marella for President – Leadership for America. At time like that I wish I were an American. Santino moves on to take responsibility for the relative poor performance of Italian athletes at the Beijing Olympics and shares the mockup for a statue of his image, planned to be erected in his honor in Italy. He them advances his feud with Perez Hilton and of course, Beth Phoenix makes a cameo. A great edition of the Casa.

And then it’s off to the Palace of Wisdom and The Dirt Sheet. Miz & Morrison address Cryme Tyme’s comments we mentioned earlier (Scroll up for the details). They don’t even break a sweat putting Cryme Tyme in their right place. Then we get a gangsta rap by Miz & Morrison. I can’t do it justice, so just go and watch it yourselves. Miz & Morrison just reach new heights every week – Someone please put them in the main event, NOW!

And now for WTF. As I mentioned Josh isn’t with us this week, he was probably too busy with the DNC. So we get Jack Corpella as host of the Weekly Top Five. He may just be the biggest geek WWE ever hired, including Todd Grisham and Josh Mathews (But they’ve moved on to being cool geeks). Santino makes an appearance here, as his rematch with Kofi Kingston is at number 5. Number 4 is a shocker, as ECW shows up here with Finley vs. Knox. Jeff Hardy vs. MVP takes the number 3 spot, including Shelton’s run-in at the end. The number 2 spot belong to Raw and Kane vs. Batista. Finally, Triple H used his backstage power to maneuver his way into the number 1 spot on WTF’s with his match against Shelton Benjamin. POLITICS!

And that’s what the DotCom gave us this week. Who knows what the road to Unforgiven will give us next.
