Ultimate Marvel Handbook #241

Archive, Columns, Top Story

Hi all and Welcome to another Ultimate Marvel Handbook. I must say we have great mailers. Great readers too, because we continue to get great questions and more then enough to fill a column. I‘m enjoying this. Hey Daron how are you today?

Not bad, not that I got this bad boy up. Apparently the site had been eating all of the copies of this edition of the Handbook that Jim put up, which is why there hasn’t been one in a couple weeks. Not sure why the site was so hungry and why the Handbook was the only column capable of satisfying her, but she finally appears to be full up and we’re once again on the move.

I‘m very good and excited. I think I‘m having too much fun. Maybe I am. Even though I‘ve not slept too much I feel better just having this much reader response. Let‘s get going in fact.

Sometimes I wonder if I’m just typing to myself…

Rust emails (this continues from last week)

Is there a certain place I can check out, or hang out and talk with people without looking like an idiot? I hear people at the local bookstore talk about their favorite writers and artists and editors, while I have to merely nod and say something about: “Yeah, that would be awesome.” Where can I learn about comics again without feeling like a dumbass? Is there any upcoming series, mini-series, character arcs/storylines or anything interesting coming out in the next few months that YOU can’t wait for?

Well you can always talk to us of course. We love emails. Also check your favorite comic shop. A lot of places you can chat about what‘s going on with other readers and the people working there. After all they read comics too. There‘s also various message boards like the one for Nexus.

As for what I‘m looking forward to:

RUNAWAYS by Terry Moore and Humberto Ramos

X-MEN: RETURN OF MAGIK: by C.B. Cebulski, Christopher Yost and David Aja, Niko Henrichon, Davis Yardin

CIVIL WAR: HOUSE OF M by Christos Gage and Andrea Di Vito

DEADPOOL: by Daniel Way and Paco Medina

X-MEN: ORIGINAL SIN: by Daniel Way, Mike Carey, and Mike Deodato, Scott Eaton

CAPTAIN AMERICA: WHITE: by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale

I’m also going to keep enjoying all I already am.

That’s some pretty sound advice there…and to think I was gonna tell you to find a really hot chick, take her on a nice romantic night on the town and about halfway through continually ask her what she thinks about the events in Secret Invasion. I’m sure she’d have all kinds of opinions to give you…

With all the hype that The Dark Knight has gotten, I think Marvel’s feeling a little forgotten. So in a top 5 list, can you guys list your favorite Marvel movies?

hmm I can do this:

1. Iron Man.
2. Spider-Man
3. X-Men
4. Incredible Hulk
5. X-Men 2

For me:

Best –

1. X2
2. Iron Man
3. Spider-Man
4. X-Men
5. Blade

How about a Bottom 5 List for the worst?

in reverse order: IE 1 is the worst Marvel movie

5. Hulk
4. Punisher (1989 one)
3. Man-Thing
2. Nick Fury: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.
1. Howard the Duck

And mine…

Worst –

5. Spider-Man 3
4. Punisher (1989)
3. Hulk
2. Ghost Rider
1. X3

(My list doesn’t include movies I haven’t seen, like some Jim listed or absolute crap that I wouldn’t even bother to watch, like Elektra…)

What would be the best comic for me to buy with plenty o’ cleavage? Uh…purely for collecting, of course.

Here‘s your choices:

Ms Marvel
She-Hulk

Of course there‘s ANYTHING by FRANK CHO. Shanna the She-Devil included.

Is there any chance for another Kull series? I always thought Kull should have been a great comic series, considering how much I loved Thor.

Well Kull if and when he returns will not be a Marvel title. Marvel no longer has the rights to the character. Darkhorse now owns the rights to produce Kull now. Just like the Conan property.

Are there any downright evil characters that you’d love to see get a mini-series that haven’t yet?

Well some have had series: Thanos, Doom, Loki, Magneto, Apocalypse. Of course I’d love to see more done with them. There’s always Mr. Sinister who I just happen to be a big fan of.

Which good guy do you think would benefit the most by turning completely evil?

Toughy. I always thought maybe someone like a Cyclops till recently in Uncanny he got a spine. Who might work? How about Sentry? Tons of fans hate him anyway.

Finally, am I the only person who actually enjoyed the Daredevil and Elektra films? They weren’t nearly as bad as the original Fantastic Four bootleg I downloaded. Now that one SUUUCKED.

Daredevil wasn‘t horrible. They just tried to put to much into the one movie. Plus most every fan hates Ben Affleck on how he played the role. Plus Jennifer Garner wasn‘t who many picture as Elektra. Because of that and Daredevil Elektra was due to fail

Well I think I already answered on Elektra, but I didn’t think DD was half as bad as some of the crap they’ve come out with since…It’s not great though either.

Later on guys!

Later.

Dirk posted (continued from last week)

Wow…the forums finally allowed me to register for the first time in 3 months!

Heh. Good to have you on board.

Forumers: Please feel free to respond to this as well if you want. I’ll try to check as often as I can at work.

Great column again this week guys. I just started coming here about 3 months ago and really got into the Comic Columns.

it‘s good to have you. We love new readers and writers.

4. Since I just got back into comics, I’m not sure what the deal is with the Skrulls. These are the green-skinned “aliens” right? So how long is this invasion supposed to have taken place over? Months? Years? Decades? When it’s over, will it drastically change the landscape of comics or will it be another “epic event” that’s resolved itself with no long-lasting affects?

Well the invasion started years ago from everything they have said. Bendis himself has been working on the idea since he started his Avengers run. So it goes back to Secret War at least. Bendis Secret War of course. As far as they are saying that there will be change and they want fans to embrace it.

5. If I wanted to buy some comics that didn’t deal with superheroes, but more of a realistic kind of feel (similar to The Dark Knight), what should I buy?

hmmmmm There‘s always:

Criminal
Marvel Illustrated

I know other companies have series to but I only really read Marvel.

Now it’s time for the “if” game.

6. If there was one major character you could kill who would it be and why?

hmmmmmmm It‘s likely I‘d kill Sentry. To much of a Superman rip off. I mean one Superman is bad enough.

7. If there was one major character you could revamp into your own vision, who would it be and what would you do?

Hmm toughy. Real good one. It might be Ghost Rider. Give the spirit to a new character. I think fans may be getting tired of Blaze and even Ketch. Creating a new Ghost Rider and focusing on how they got that way and let him face the super natural forces as well.

8. If you could put a Marvel character on the big screen, who would it be?

Most of the big ones are already getting movies. So I really have none that aren‘t in the works or already having a movie I want to see desperately.

Okay, I guess some of those questions were really more rants, but hey, I had to post.

Please keep up the great work. This column (and Who’s Who) is seriously the only reason I even come to Inside Pulse. Sorry, but the site layout sucks for trying to find stuff. I miss the old layout personally. It was easier to know when there were updates and interesting columns I might check out. Now it just feels a little crammed together and jumbled.

It‘s all good. We don‘t mind complaints or just answering your questions. After all it‘s part of the job.

Layout complaints should go to the head office…we’re just in charge of content here. :)

Anyway, have a great week guys!

later

Not bad, hopefully we can get the next one up without the site continually eating it…
