10 Thoughts On Unforgiven – 09.08.2008

PPVs, Reviews

More in-depth stuff to come tomorrow but a few quick bullets.

1) The scramble matches came off as weird and awkward as I expected with no real thought to strategy or anything of the sort. Once someone scored a pinfall, there was absolutely no reason for them to continue engaging opponents. They simply should have sat outside the ring and played defense and let the clock run down.

2) If your plan was to put four joke competitors in the Smackdown scramble, you could have at least let one of them win it.

3) There was no reason for the Big Show to be in the ring as long as he was unless he was either getting turned on or turning on someone. This is good. I’m glad they are doing something with him. It would be nice if they let him come out on top in a feud for the first time in the decade he’s been with the company.

4) The Brian Kendrick had the opportunity to be the champion and I am happy with it. He should retire now… it’s never getting better.

5) The Michaels/Jericho match’s finish was anti-climactic for me. I know the WWE has their new silly “no blood” policy, but there are certain matches that need blood. That was one. The KO finish, though I know why they did it, didn’t work for me.

6) I was truly glad to see Shelton bring it since his last couple PPV matches have been duds.

7) Michelle McCool and Maryse should never wrestle on PPV ever again. Or maybe on television ever again.

8) I was unaware a new Samoan was going to be the Evolution enforcer. I am thrilled.

9) Pencil in Chris Jericho for new music and a new Titantron tomorrow.

10) Jericho’s win was an old-school PPV surprise that the WWE doesn’t really do that often anymore. As such, it left me feeling the show was awesome and tremendous and 1,000 other words I’ll write down later. It worked on so many levels. It totally revitalizes the world title picture. It protects Punk. It allows Punk to be separated from the title and even a feud for the title while this Orton feud elevates him. It creates a cools Michaels/Jericho/Batista triangle. It just works and was an awesome decision by the company. Loved it.
