Make Movement: CBL and Jericho’s Believability

Columns

As much as I enjoy Chris Jericho and his work, I’m not sure if WWE made a great move by having him win the title after his “unsanctioned” match with HBK that supposedly left him unable to continue. No matter what drove the writers to leave Punk out of the match and have him drop the title, maybe I’m too much of a traditionalist and would have rather had seen someone like Batista who was in the match win the belt.

Jericho is such a top notch heel and fun to watch, and once Shawn Michaels returns should set up a nice feud again, but in the meantime, Jericho is facing the top healthy babyface, Batista. Cade is extremely useless with Jericho and unneeded, he adds nothing to Jericho’s heat.

What I enjoyed on RAW was Charlie Haas as CBL. That went over extremely well and who knew that Haas would be great at mocking/mimicking other established superstars. JBL is a great catalysis for Haas and that could be a fun feud that no one would expect.

One disappointing point of the night, was Mickie James match with Beth Phoenix. Extremely sloppy and dangerous for both competitors. Later on however, one of WWE’s newest stars, Matt Bourne, showcased his high flying ability in a tag team match with Rey Mysterio, Jr. Bourne is a lot what Paul London would be if he were pushed more. Bourne is extremely talented and hopefully, he will cross over onto the RAW landscape more often.

The WWE writers are teasing a ‘prove your ability’ makeshift alliance with Randy Orton and Ted DiBiase Jr., Cody Rhodes, and Manu. Eventually this should lead to some sort of alliance that Orton can be the mastermind of, in the same light as the Four Horsemen and DX, but I don’t know if it will be as strong. Manu right now is the greenest weak link, when fans are so used to Samoans being more like Umaga. I don’t even buy into Manu’s believability as a heel, he looks too much like a babyface.
