The Hills – Episodes 4-4 & 4-5 Review

So we got a double dose of drama this week with a special episode before the VMA’s (aka waste of time) along with our usual Monday night dosage. Lauren and her entourage hit up Vegas for Frankie’s birthday and thus the drama begins…

The entire trip and both episodes centered around the rift of tension forming between Audrina and Lauren. I mean, these two are nothing alike. Audrina, the rocker wannabe who hangs out with the likes of Justin Bobby, is nothing if not opposite of Ms. Fashionista Lauren Conrad. Still, their friendship seemed to work when they lived together. Granted they have completely different circles of friends, they still made time for each other. But now, Audrina’s in bars ignoring Lauren and Lauren’s claiming that she goes to concerts and stupidly “bobs her head along” to make Audrina happy. Ouch.

The dwindling relationship is also attributed to one more thing–Lo Bosworth. This girl just can not get over anyone being Lauren’s best friend beside herself. Hopefully she will get her own life one day. Poor girl.

Stephanie decides to make the trip to Vegas, creating even more tension as she and Brody have a checkered past. Brody grew up with her, Spencer and her drug problems, and therefore tells Lauren not to trust her. Smart Stephanie decides to bring this all up during a nice dinner. Cue the verbal sparring. After Brody calls Stephanie “pyscho” and “crazy” she breaks down and cries at the table. Even I thought this was harsh, and I don’t think that girl has even one good motive for hanging around Lauren. I mean, we all know she’s after the fame, and Doug.

Meanwhile, Justin Bobby and Audrina arrive separately. When they all meet up at the club, Audrina proceeds to completely ignore Lauren. But wait, she makes phony small talk with her arch nemesis Lo?!? Oh, the fakery.

Whitney, by the way, is in about 1.2 minutes of every episode, if that. She just chimes in as the moral authority and voice of reason, helping Lauren sort through her oh-so-complicated life. Gotta love the girl though. She doesn’t have an ounce of drama in her. And yeah, she’s probably on the wrong show.

As for Heidi and Spencer, more fakery ensues with Heidi’s sister Holly. Heidi doesn’t mind her staying with them until she gets her own place. But Spencer, god forbid he doesn’t have a place to do nothing. “You’re in my office,” he says to Holly while she gives herself a pedicure in the living room. He even calls Heidi out of work to tell her that Holly erased the shows he TiVo’ed. How dare she! It gets worse. He decides to be upfront and tell Holly that neither he nor Heidi wants her there. So she does the only respectable thing there is to do–she gets the hell out.

Seriously, why would you choose to live with Spencer anyway? Come on now.

Lauren and Audrina have a nice heart-to-heart involving the usual tears and smudged eyeliner. They both accuse the other of not caring and finally decide to make more of an effort to be friends. How sweet! Too bad that will last a few episodes at best. I actually kind of feel bad for Lauren sometimes, but she needs to be a little more easy going, not to mention get rid of that follower she calls a friend (Lo).

Frankie walks his hungover self to Lauren, Lo and Stephanie’s room to tell them that Brody and Doug are in jail. Of course, we all think it’s real jail. The girls even begin calling the local jails. Turns out they were in a casino jail. After getting attacked by a drunken gambler, the duo decide to spend the rest of their night pressing charges. Okay, Okay, we get it, you’re rich and can do that. But, seriously? Why waste a perfectly good night? I just don’t get it.

So will Lauren and Heidi ever be friends? Doubtful. Though, both have recently said that they miss the other. Interesting…Stay tuned!
