Gossip Girl – Episode 2-3 Review

Top Story

It just keeps on getting better. Honestly, I thought this show would have about a season’s worth of juicy storylines. But surprisingly, it keeps delivering. Last night’s episode was one of the best thus far.

I actually started liking Vanessa and Nate together. I know, shocking. At first, they were really random and borderline boring, but last night the chemistry heated up. Nate is still seeing Catherine, mostly now because she gives him money. Nate meets up with Vanessa and Catherine sees them holding hands. Uh oh!

Naturally, she tells Blair to have Vanessa come with Nate to the “back-to-school party” Blair is throwing (when isn’t she throwing a party?). But after Nate realizes he will have both Catherine and Vanessa in the same room, he cancels on Vanessa. She is crushed and for once, I actually feel sorry for her.

Chuck, on the other hand, is having..err..performance problems with the ladies. He can’t get his mind off Blair and decides to go after her. In one of the steamiest moments on television, he tries to seduce her at the party. Considering Marcus won’t have sex with her, she almost gives in to Chuck, but then calls him disgusting. “Then why are you still holding my hand?” he asks. Soooo good.

Dan and Serena are the disgusting ones if you ask me. I couldn’t bare to see them even kiss in this episode as they were all over each other. Rather than talk out their issues, they just hook up. That leads no where, they end up fighting and stuck in the elevator at the party during a blackout.

Jenny is redeeming herself from last season. She’s working hard at Eleanor Waldorf’s company and it’s nice to see her away from the drama for a while. But then, she unknowingly calls one of the designs ugly right in front of Eleanor. Fired!

Meanwhile at the party, Blair’s trying to make the best of the blackout. Nate and Vanessa talk and he tells her he wants to be with her. It actually seemed genuine and sweet. She then demands to know everything about the affair and the money situation. While Nate goes to break it off with Catherine, Vanessa  is confronted by the cougar herself. Catherine blackmails Vanessa into breaking it off with Nate otherwise Catherine will tell the FBI where’s dad is hiding. Grrr.

Blair convinces Marcus to meet her in her bedroom, but when she goes up there, it is all dark and she ends up kissing Chuck! And we actually get to hear Ed Westwick’s real British accent for a brief moment as he pretends to be the Lord. Of course Marcus sees them kissing and Blair claims she didn’t know it was Chuck. She knew. It seems he forgives her and we see Chuck with some other chick in a limo…still having problems.

Jenny is stuck in the blackout with the woman who fired her. Awkward. Eleanor actually asks for Jenny’s help, admitting her designs aren’t all that great. Little Jenny is rehired.

Dan and Serena decide to break up. And for once, I actually felt for them. They both admit they still love the other, but it’s best to break it off. The class difference just always gets in the way. Apparently.

Dan and Vanessa, the really good friends who never seem to hang out or have scenes together, end up comforting each other in the end. How sweet. I just hope they don’t go there with these two. At least not yet…

Stay tuned for next week!
