Gossip Girl – Episode 2-4 Review

Bitchy queen bee Serena is back. And Blair is pissed. Chuck, on the other hand, is happy his plan is all falling into place…

It’s the first day of their senior year and everyone’s back to their own cliques. Dan and Serena worry about running into each other. Blair and her posse are sizing up the girls who are vying to be popular. “We’ll be in touch,” she tells them, as if she’s recruiting for the school basketball team.

Note to Blair: Did your grandmother dress you?

A new girl Amanda comes along and instantly befriends Dan much to Serena’s surprise. Blair decides to put a stop to it by inviting her to lunch and telling her to stay away. “She’s Dan with boobs,” according to Blair. And that’s definitely not someone you want with your ex-boyfriend, right S?

Dan and Serena go out together with Amanda for a reason I still don’t understand. Awkward much? Basically, they are having a get-the-other jealous competition and they are both losing. Dan’s blames Serena for all the stuff Blair’s posse is doing to the girl (i.e. putting Nair on her head so her hair falls out). I used to really like Dan, but lately he’s been Mr. Self-Righteous. More like Mr. Hypocrite if you ask me.

Meanwhile Catherine shows up to give Vanessa money for staying away from Nate, but when Vanessa goes to return the $5,000 check, she sees something. In the biggest shock of the night, Catherine is seen kissing her stepson (and Blair’s boyfriend) Marcus. Uh oh!

Vanessa of course tells Dan and he tells her to go to Blair. Yes, Blair. Blair starts crying when she see the picture Vanessa took and says she will take care of it. She blackmails Catherine and Marcus and tells them to pay off Nate’s debts and leave or the Duke sees the picture. Problem solved.

Not so much. After seeing Blair at dinner with Marcus, Vanessa assumes she’s not doing anything and goes to the Duke herself and tells him of Catherine and Nate’s affair. Nate’s pissed at Vanessa for all the lies. I actually feel bad for her. She was trying to help him out and sadly, these two seem to be over. For now.

And now for the boring storylines…Chuck’s father is in China and Lily has spent an awful lot of time trying to hang out with Rufus. I’m sorry lady, but it’s your own fault. You slept with him and then got married the next day. Of course he doesn’t want to be friends with you. Get over it.

Jenny is still doing the designing internship and getting used to being a nobody at school again. Something tells me that will change anyway now that Serena is back on top.

Unsurprisingly, Chuck is the mastermind behind it all in a desperate attempt to get Blair back. It is revealed that he paid Amanda to pretend to like Dan to get Serena jealous. He knew she’d get bitchy and bitter, and eventually turn to Blair’s posse for help. Thus, Blair is dethroned. Oh, but who will she turn to for comfort? Yes, it all starts to make sense now.

Gossip Girl is back to the backstabbing friendships and neverending betrayals. The cat fight begins next week!
