One Tree Hill – Episode 6-5 Review

Every week I think that this show couldn’t be more of a departure from where it began and every week I am proved wrong. This week’s show had its moments, but the Nanny Carrie-slasher storyline is getting a little too ridiculous for my liking.

Nanny Carrie is digging a grave for Dan, who she plans on killing as soon as she gets Jamie. She pretends to be Dan’s hospice nurse so that Haley and Jamie will go visit him. That soon becomes probably the worst storyline in the show’s history. Yes, even beating out Peyton’s psycho-stalker Derek.

Peyton and Lucas have set a date for their wedding, which was nice to hear. But while in New York for a talk about the press tour for his book, he is forced to confront Lindsey about his upcoming nuptials to Peyton. I think we are supposed to feel sorry for him at this point, but come on, he brought that all upon himself. At least that drama is over for now. By the way, what’s with the cover of his new book? It looks more like a Danielle Steel cover than a Lucas Scott self-indulgent life story.

As for Nathan, I was psyched when he got a call from the NBA. I really thought that this was one of the most redeeming storylines because it dates back to the first season and sort of comes full circle. Of course, he flies out right away to talk to the general manager of the team and as soon as they started talking I knew what was up. The GM wants Nathan as a coach–not as a player–and obviously Nathan wasn’t too happy about that. But something tells me his basketball-playing days aren’t over. They better not be, at least! Why does Lucas’ dreams all come true, but Nathan has to settle?

As for Brooke,  she is in her own little world. At first, I was intrigued by this dark and sad Brooke we got to see. I was excited for her big storyline, but what happened? She spent most of the episode in therapy, which was a bore to watch. Though, I do predict she and the girl that robbed her store, Sam, will be turning to each other soon. Both are lonely (Sam is seen sleeping in someone’s truck) and both seem to be just a bit broken. I gotta say I was happy to see Millicent come back and cheer Brooke up a bit, especially because she was being a little bitchy to Peyton. But please, please, please don’t bring back Mouth. I used to like him, but at this point, he just uses up screen time for pointless and forgettable stories.

Peyton, besides planning the wedding, has been talking to this Mick guy she met who knew her mom. I used to be convinced that he was Peyton’s father, but now I’m not so sure. They are strangely similar, but now that Peyton thinks he is her dad, I have a feeling it will come out that he’s not. To be honest, I’m sick of the Peyton family drama. She’s had like a fifty different parents (ok, that’s an exaggeration) and each one is forgotten as soon as she meets the new one. Give it up already.

Now for the horror flick insert…

Haley unknowingly drives to Carrie’s house to let Jamie see Dan. Carrie, being the psycho she is, hits Haley and goes after Jamie. Jamie runs into a random cornfield (how convenient!) and Carrie is chasing him with a syringe. Haley finally finds him and they make a run for it. As Carrie catches up, Deb appears out of nowhere and hits Carrie over the head with a bottle, which was surprisingly a little funny. Dan ends up shooting Carrie–twice–and we are left wondering if she is finally dead and whether Dan will get sent back to jail.

The next episode has potential as we see Dan’s reaction to Deb and Skillz, Brooke reveal a big secret and Nathan consider playing a different kind of game. But, we have to wait two weeks…figures! Stay tuned!
