Independent Run Down For 10/4

Yes, I’m back after a few week lay off due to some personal issues. This week’s edition will feature a special look at the upcoming FIP show (Impact of Honor II) on October 11th.

Where We Left Off
It has seemed like forever since the last time FIP was in action. Last time we saw FIP was in August when they presented ‘Heatstroke 2008’. The event featured a wild brawl between Tyler Black and Necro Butcher, the FIP Tag Team Champions in singles competition against former ROH Tag Team Champions (Austin Aries vs. Jason Blade and Roderick Strong vs. Kenny King), then finally Erick Stevens defended the FIP Heavyweight Championship against Go Shiozaki. With the help of Heartbreak Enterprises, Shiozaki was able to capture the FIP Heavyweight Championship.

Strong’s Quest For The Gold
A Championship which Strong helped build is once again in his sites as he will challenge Go Shiozaki at Impact of Honor II. Strong and Shiozaki are both synonymous with striking their opponents as hard as possible so the chops will surely fly in this match. Also, Strong has struggled against Japanese talent this year in singles competition, falling to Naomichi Marufuji in July then Kensuke Sasaki in September. Can Strong reverse his fortunes against Shiozaki? Finally, many questions surround Shiozaki. After winning the title under suspect circumstances, questions have arisen. Is Shiozaki a legit champion or just another paper champion?

Number One Contender
Tyler Black’s star has risen across the independent scene in the year of 2008 while Erick Stevens’ has seen success in 2008 but he’s began to sputter as of late. Now, these two young stars will do battle for the right to call themselves the number one contender. Black sees this match as a key opportunity to further the movement of the Age of the Fall. Black believes the FIP Heavyweight Championship will bring power to the AOTF which is why he needs to beat Stevens. On the other hand, Stevens’ is out to prove that he’s not a one-hit wonder. He’s won the FIP Heavyweight Championship twice this year but hasn’t been able to hold onto the title very long on either occasion.

Back For Revenge
The Briscoes are returning to FIP and are looking for revenge against the YRR, specifically the tag champions of Kenny King and Jason Blade. Back at Unstoppable 2007, the YRR practically stole the tag team titles from the Briscoes. Earlier this year, the Briscoes were suppose to get their re-match but an injury to Mark Briscoe forced Austin Aries into his spot as a replacement. Now, the Briscoes are back to 100% and are back for revenge and their FIP Tag Team Championships.
