If there is any PPV I want to back this year for only two matches that are a must see, it’s Jeff Hardy versus Triple H; and Shawn Michaels versus Chris Jericho in a ladder match from No Mercy. The rest of the show was pretty forgettable with the exception of Kane’s chair shot to Rey Mysterio Jr.’s skull and JBL’s Wall Street promo, but the last two matches of the night stole the show.
Triple H and Jeff Hardy gave a very solid singles match, with Hardy shining with the best performance of his singles career. The drama was perfect and a times, Hardy was pulling out RVD-like spots. Of course a rematch has to happen because Triple H didn’t end the match with his exclaimation point pedigree.
The match of the night and probably one of the best matches of the year was the hard fought and brutal match between Shawn Michaels and Chris Jericho. Jericho proved that he’s extremely tough and the amount of punishment he took from start to finish should erase all doubts (including mine) that he should be the WWE Champion right now. Losing part of his tooth and getting banged up from spot after spot, Jericho kept up and was on some serious adrenaline to keep performing. This is just a match to see to be believed and of course will be pushed on the next volume of Ladder Matches by the WWE someday.
What I’m excited about though is Gina Carano! I caught EliteXC this past weekend on CBS, and though I’ve been a casual fan of MMA, Gina may just have put me over into watching the sport on a more regular basis. She’s got a great fighter, she’s hot and the makings of a huge star of the sport and “the face of the women’s MMA.” All I can say is Vince needs to court this one and court this one hard, she’s got the look to be out of this world marketable and the skills to back it up. It’s too bad WWE is misusing Mickie James, I would love to see that shoot fight.
