First Casualty of the NHL Season.

Well that didn’t take long.

“Ottawa Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his right knee Friday and be sidelined two weeks.

He’ll have a bone chip removed, the team said. His knee was injured during a game against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Sunday.

Alfredsson has two assists in two games. The 35-year-old winger had 89 points (40-49) in 70 games last season”

Obviously this is a big loss for the Sens who also suffered some big losses in the offseason. That being said, a top line that has Jason Spezza and Dany Heatley probably won’t struggle to much while Alfie is out. The key guy in the next two weeks for the Sens will be Antoine Vermette, he needs to step up and fill some of the scoring void left by Alfreddson going under the knife. Combine that with improved play by Gerber and the Sens will be just fine.
