Wow! Wow! Wubbzy!: A Tale of Tails – DVD Review

DVD Reviews, Reviews

Yellow? Check! Square? Check! Lives in a pineapple under the sea? Che…errrrr not exactly. You see there is more then one yellow animated character that can entertain kids all over the world. The only thing about this character, that doesn’t hail from Bikini Bottom, is that he isn’t necessarily designed or created to bring both kids and adults together. No, this one is aimed at just the kiddos, but there is nothing wrong with that because so few kids’ shows actually make you sit up and say Wow…wow!

Over in the town of Wuzzleburg is the lovable and excitable creature by the name of Wubbzy. He is always ecstatic about everything he does; so much so he’ll exclaim “Wow Wow!” which is where the series gets its name. Wubbzy has two friends that pretty much join in with him on all of his adventures and daytime games. Widget is and old Southern gal that knows how to fix or build anything. Walden is a straight-up computer geek who has a vast array of knowledge for anything the group may need to figure out. Together they enjoy some really wild times and usually learn a lesson or two along the way.

This DVD presents three episodes which incorporates six short stories of some fun times and not so fun times. Wubbzy learns that it really isn’t the best idea to tell a lie because whatever he gains from it originally will end up being harder to deal with at the end. Another story sees Wubbzy get a new pet that ends up being a bigger handful then his small stature made it seem he would be. There’s even an episode where Widget puts all her build-it expertise to the test in order to win a race. These are just a few of the adventures that the group will experience, but there is never a dull moment in Wuzzleburg.

Adults and parents are not going to really get that much out of this series as it is aimed mostly at a younger generation and that is obvious not only by the content, but the animation as well. Bright colors and fun, wild characters make way as good attention-getters for those little ones who are crying their heads off or just won’t listen to reason. My niece Maggie is who originally introduced me to “Ow Ow” as she calls him, and it is a lot of fun checking it out with her. She sings along, laughs, and knows everyone by name. But if it were just me by myself, then I seriously doubt I’d end up checking out the series and this comes from a guy who watches cartoons daily.

Episodes

A Tale Of Tails

Widget’s Wild Rid
Attack Of The 50-Foot Eagle
Come Spy With Me
Wubbzy Tells A Whopper

The episodes are shown in Full Frame format and the transfer to DVD is almost flawless. All the colors are as bright as can be and everything looks great.

The episodes are heard in Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo Sound and it does a great job of bringing forth the singing, laughter, and fun music throughout each episode.

Bonus Episodes – “Mt. Fizzy Pop” and “Puddle Muddle” are listed on the DVD case as bonus episodes yet they are listed on the main episode screen. Odd, but still fun episodes nonetheless.

Bonus Music Video – “Kooky Is Cool” which is just awesome.

Ring Toss Game – This feature is available on your computer per the DVD-ROM and lets you get online to play a Wubbzy themed ring toss game. Kinda enjoyable.

Fun Printables – This is another feature that can be accessed on your computer and gives you access to coloring sheets, connect-the-dots, and many other fun activities.

Wow! Wow! Wubbzy is a great series for kids that can really teach them some good lessons once they reach that learning age. Whether it is sharing, not lying, or just being a good friend, Wubbzy and his friends bring about the lessons in fun ways that are sure to get your kids smiling and singing along. The songs are one of the high points of the series because they are very catchy and easy to remember. My biggest problem with this release isn’t the fact that it is created for kids, because I’m all for that. No, I am kind of upset that we only get such a small handful of episodes here. Why give us only six and then two bonuses to go along with them? There is at least one whole season out there already that could have been made into a set but we only get six shorts. Bah. Either way, this is a great series for those with kids and it comes with some fun special features that will keep them busy for hours. But be warned moms and dads: you’ll have the theme song stuck in your head for hours, days, maybe even weeks.
