10 Thoughts on TNA Impact, 10/16/08

Reviews, Shows, TV Shows

I’m back due to TNA causing Brad existential despair. Let’s see how long I can hold on this time.

1. Announcing Foley’s farewell address when he just signed is utterly ridiculous. Jarrett asks for a meeting and seems to imply Foley will be back. No one is surprised but Don West. They end the show with Foley announcing he’ll change the wrestling world next week. Do these ever pay off?

2. I wish Sabin and Shelley were pushed more, but you could do worse with opening shows with them to pop crowds. Their match was good, but the gimmicky actions of Dutt are silly in the wrong way.

3. Angle vs. Morgan was a pretty good match, but there was no reason for Kurt to go over a guy they’re building so cleanly, especially kicking out of his finisher. Kurt beating up both of the MCMG and then both of Morgan and Abyss made him seem great… and everyone else seem useless.

4. Nash turned on Joe because he disrespected Hall and Nash months ago. So making sure he kept the title for months was revenge? How is costing Joe the title to Sting worse than what he could have done ages ago against Booker?

5. Apparently Sting is champion, not because he’s the best, but because Joe didn’t respect him enough to beat him early when he was clearly superior. Good promo, but it leaves us with a paper champion. Here comes AJ Styles, who cuts the promo of his career to be belittled by Sting and compared to his… father? That’s out of left field. AJ slaps Sting and is fully justified… in the feud that’s now for the title, but only for the second best wrestler in TNA…. then they cut from something that’s actually working to Angle beating up the Prince Jobber Squad.

6. The beautiful people stop Hemme for taking their T.V. time, as she’s walking away to get off T.V. And they manage to anti-sell HD by saying it’ll make the women less attractive.

7. Hey Cheerleader Melissa wrestles, that’s always a good call. Roxxi can really go too. The curb stomp is a cool move that’s not really seen done stiffly on T.V., so TNA has Melissa doing two of them for a transition near fall. Overall, this was nearly WWE formula, without the babyface shine and these two are capable of far more, which isn’t to say this was bad, merely not as good as it could be.

8. Wasn’t Booker a heel because he didn’t get a proper dressing room? And since I’ve watched, why has Booker totally changed his accent? He sounds absolutely retarded now.

9. They finally found the right role for Creed- Squashed by Nash. Then a blown up Nash cuts a long, terrible promo… but at least he seemed like a heel, unlike Sting.

10. Do any matches in TNA just end without beatdowns or cut- aways?
