10 Thoughts on Friday Night Smackdown For 10-24-08

Reviews, Shows, TV Shows

Aaron already covered the underwhelming episode of Impact, so I’ll limit my thoughts to WWE’s blue team this week. Here are my reactions to a second evening with this group this week:

1. HHH Pedigreed Jeff Hardy during the opening interview. He owed him for all of the Twists of Fate recently.

2. Festus did the first mariachi-in in WWE history during the Divas match, to serenade Maria. So, there’s some history for you. They’re tying in the functionally retarded romance to an angle between Maria and Michelle McCool, apparently.

3. The Colons/Guerrero and Neely match had some cool spots. The best were Carlito ranabombing Primo on to Neely and the Colons reversing a Bam suplex on Primo in to a double suplex. So, the Colons are developing in to a really fun team.

4. The Mariachi/Jesse/Festus/Maria stampede backstage was a pretty hilarious sight gag.

5. This match also gave us the apparent break up of Chavo and Bam. Which meant nothing because Bam hasn’t been in Chavo’s corner much lately and because he’s a total jobber. When has he ever been useful to Chavo? I seem to remember having a point beyond “Bam sucks” here, but I lost it. He reminds me a lot of Tomko back when he was Christian’s partner, but without the cool look.

6. Funaki pinned MVP clean, a fact that even Funaki was surprised by. J.R. compared him to Steamboat, which is actually fairly accurate, as his offense looked similar to the Dragon’s. Well, not nearly as fluid, but it did remind me of him a little.

7. Helms’s pop up video segments are called Hurrapops.

8. Runjin Singh’s sideburns are officially out of control.

9. Super Crazy vs. The Kendrick was absurdly short. Did like Kendrick calf kicking around the ref to get Crazy, and it’s always nice to see Sliced Bread #2.

10. HHH vs. the Undertaker was an excellent Free TV match, even with the non ending (although it’s not like everyone didn’t see that coming). It bodes well for a possible PPV match between them. They even worked in some cool counters of each other’s signature spots (really liked HHH high kneeing Undertaker to counter the Yakuza Kick). This was a total one match show, but at least it was a good one.
