Gossip Girl – Episode 2-8 Review

All I have to say is…what the? After watching Nate go through pretty much every girl on the show, this week he ends up kissing none other than little Jenny Humphrey. It was a shock even to me and I saw it coming.

Don’t get me wrong; I’ve never been against a Nate/Jenny hookup (it’s in the book), but why rush it? Did they really have no other storylines for his character that they have to have him with a different girl every episode? Just a few weeks ago i was rooting for him and Vanessa to get together. Anyway, let’s get into the episode…

Nate is staying with the Humphrey’s and has been getting close to Dan. Meanwhile Jenny has been designing clothes for Eleanor Waldorf and hanging out with a model named Agyness (aka Kaitlin Cooper from The OC). Nate tries to act as a big-brother type by looking out for Jenny and then they end up kissing randomly. I guess we will see where this goes. All I know is that Dan’ going to be beyond pissed.

As for Dan, he was actually tolerable this week…for a while at least. Blair turned to him for help (Serena’s advice) and he told her to just tell Chuck she loves him. He even gives Serena his blessing to date this artist at Vanessa’s gallery. Dan being selfless…amazing, I know. But then he goes and tells Blair not to trust Chuck. And there begins the fight between Chuck and Blair. Damn you, Humphrey!

I was very much looking forward to a Blair/Chuck love declaration, at last. But no, we get the shaft again. Now that I think about it, it is a smart move creatively to keep them apart for as long as possible. If the payoff is too soon, people will start to lose interest. And we all know couples are a lot more exciting to watch while they are in the “will they/won’t they” stage (see: Ross/Rachel, Pam/Jim, Lucas/Peyton, Meredith/Derek etc).

So Jenny ends up quitting her internship and decides to create her own line. And of course, she kisses Nate. At least her storylines have become somewhat interesting now. Serena went undetected this episode as she mainly acted a catalyst for the other characters’ drama. This week’s episode wasn’t great, but it definitely made some smart moves to keep us watching.

Tune in next week for Jenny’s fashion show where apparently she and Nate’s relationship is revealed. Already? Drag it out a few episodes more please!
