Taylor Momsen, one of the young stars of The CW’s Gossip Girl has been hospitalized with a severe illness.

The 15-year-old actress was released from Los Angeles’ Cedars-Sinai Medical Center Wednesday afternoon (Oct. 22) after battling a “severe, potentially life-threatening throat infection, reports Usmagazine.com.

“I have been treating Miss Taylor Momsen for the last few days,” Dr. Shawn Nasseri tells the magazine. “She has been hospitalized for a severe, potentially life-threatening throat infection since Sunday.”

According to a source close to the actress, Momsen was in Los Angeles to take a school exam when she consulted an ear, nose and throat specialist for what she thought was a sore throat for a common cold. But once the seriousness of the malady was diagnosed, Momsen’s mother flew from New York to be with her. Both mother and daughter will fly back to NYC this week.

“She has been an excellent patient, and after aggressive antibiotics and medications, she is expected to make a full recovery in the next three to five days,” adds Dr. Nasseri.

Momsen plays aspiring designer and social climber Jenny Humphrey on Gossip Girl. Her previous credits include Underdog, Spy Kids 2: Island of Lost Dreams, We Were Soldiers, and How the Grinch Stole Christmas, in which she played Cindy Lou Who.
