Reality Dish Exclusive Interview: Kelly Czarnecki of Survivor: Gabon

Interviews

The women continue to get eliminated from Survivor: Gabon. This past week time one of the “weaker” members of the show in Kelly Czarnecki got the boot thanks to Ace. Of course, Kelly doesn’t think she was presented in the greatest way on the show. She talks about that among other things in the interview I conducted with her the other day…

Josh Clinton: Hey Kelly, how are you doing?

Kelly Czarnecki: I’m doing well.

JC: Good. Before you got on Survivor, were you a reality TV fan?

KC: I was a definitely reality TV fan. I loved Survivor, and I think Survivor is the only reality TV show that I would want to be on.

JC: That’s cool. Going into the show, did you have a specific strategy that you wanted to use?

KC: I just wanted to make an alliance with somebody else. Then, have that person make an alliance with somebody else and I was going to make an alliance with somebody else, and then we were all going to come together. Then we would find someone who was kind of like an outcast. Somebody that nobody really talked to and bring them in.

JC: Right, but that strategy changed once you started playing the game?

KC: It definitely changed. That was me before the game. Once I got into the game, everything changed. I was like “okay, not going to do that!”

JC: Yeah, because on the show it looked like you were an outcast to both trives?

KC: Yeah, I was behind-the-scenes, wasn’t I? Which was a good thing, because I didn’t want to be too much in the open and be the person that everyone looks at. So I was just chillin’.

JC: So in the beginning it was what it really looked like then?

KC: Yeah, it was mostly me and Paloma going on hikes and walks and stuff. I was always with the tribe, but I wasn’t one that went up to anyone and said “lets make an alliance!”

JC: Right. Did you make any friends on the show that you will keep off of the show?

KC: Yeah, I definitely made some friends. Everyone is completely different off of the show.

JC: So anyone specific?

KC: I can’t answer that, eventhough you would love to hear it.

JC: Okay, fair enough. What exactly happened during the last part of the immunity challenge?

KC: It was clear that Ace couldn’t keep hold. We were winning. But in the end, Ace was used to doing everything by himself in his life and he seemed to have gotten far that way, but not when you have a team involved. You needed help and he needed to ask for help, and let us help him. So Ace sucked!

JC: Yeah. Speaking of Ace, what is up with accent anyways?

KC: Well it’s funny because we were talking about it in the game. He was telling me that he only lived in the UK for a few years. He has a sister and she has an American accent. Sometimes his accent would go in and out. Sometimes, it would be more intense than other times. But his accent worked out perfect for his character, because he’s like slimey and they way he says things, it enhances what he was trying to say. Sometimes, you’re like “shut up already!” So I think it’s fake.

JC: Okay, yeah I do too. What do you think was the biggest reason you got eliminated?

KC: I don’t even know. I think it was because Ace lied and said that I called Crystal weak, and finally at tribal council Crystal brought it up. And she happened to believe Ace. But Ace knew that I was going to vote him off, so he wanted me out and he got what he wanted.

JC: Yeah. It looks like Sugar might be the next one to go?

KC: I don’t know. Hopefully it might be Ace, because I put a target on his back. He was the one saying things about Crystal and I told everyone that before I left. That was something they didn’t show last night.

JC: Oh, cool. What did you miss the most from home while you were on the show?

KC: I definitely missed the comfort and the people that understand me the most. And then just communicating and knowing what is going on there. I missed my brother’s wedding, and that was something that made me sad and brought me down. But that kept me motivated to stay.

JC: Do you wish they would have shown something that didn’t air on the show?

KC: Oh definitely. I wish they would have showed more of my athletic side. I definitely dominated all of the challenges, but they didn’t want to show that. I’m a character and they only wanted to show me in a certain way. That’s fine, but I’m a strong athlete and I did well.

JC: Cool. Did you learn anything about yourself from this experience?

KC: Oh my god, 100%. You have so much time on your hands that you sit there and wonder about things. You think yourself and you think about back home and situations, and life in general. I definitely became a stronger and tougher person, emotionally, physically, mentally, and spiritually. So that is definitely a prize I will have with me forever.

JC: Very cool. What is next for you then>?

KC: I’m still working. I’m still in sales. I definitely want to open up my own denim store, but I’m looking into more things like fitness and nutrition. I think that’s a big part of my life and I could definitely see me doing something like that in the future.

JC: Excellent. Well thanks for your time and good luck with everything.

KC: Thank you!

I'm not embarrassed to say that my favorite television show of all-time is The O.C. I live by the motto "you can't fight fate!" More importantly, I watch WAY too much television, but I do so for the benefit of everyone reading this now. So to my mom and my wife, I say thanks for reading! To everyone else that might stumble across this, remember TiVo should be your best friend!
