The Amazing Race – Episode 13-5 Review

I know its random – but I miss the hippies. I would have loved to see them last a little longer, and it’d be nice to see some happy people as a contrast to the cranky people.

Back on track now! Ken/Tina are first off (again), and the next destination is Siem Reap, Cambodia, where they must get their next clue from a roadside gas pumping station. The first flight is through Singapore Airlines at 12:25, and they’re crossing their fingers that they’ll be the only team on it.

The Divorcees tell us that they’re intelligent people – and I have to laugh. Ahem, smart people read clues and keep track of their sports bras. Another hilarious moment right in the beginning? Terrance getting pulled over by a cop and getting a speeding ticket. Sarah comments that she thought he was a slow driver, which causes King Whiner to snap. Nothing pleases this one.

Toni says that she knows she’s not as physically capable as a 20/30 year old, so she’s got to start racing smarter. That’s a good plan, considering how her son doesn’t have much going on in the brain department. Example: He doesn’t know where Cambodia is. To Ken/Tina’s dismay, Terrance and Sarah manage to slip into the 12:25 flight. Later on, the Divorcees and Toni/Dallas are in the flight center trying to get tickets at the same time. The Divorcees start being snarky bitches, making fun of Dallas’s hair and such. Hey, boy might not be bright, but at least he can read clues correctly!

Team Frat tries desperately to get onto the 4:55 flight with the other teams, but the travel agent says they can’t. The boys run to the Emirates counter, and they manage to get spots on the flight. Lucky bastards. Everyone except Aja/Ty ends up getting caught up at the transfer in Singapore, so pretty much, your Fast Forward didn’t do shit for ya Ken/Tina. I’m worried for my team; they’re certainly getting the “loser’s edit” of airtime so far this episode. And stop being such a cute couple and making me jealous!

Every country has its taxi drama. This week, Toni/Dallas get taken to a hotel instead of the gas station, and the Divorcees get taken to a gas station, but not the right one. Nick/Starr are first to get to the right place, and they must choose a truck and pump 25 liters of fuel into it. They finish before anyone else arrives, and their next destination is to have their driver take them to Siem Reap Harbor, where they must take a boat to Kho Andeth, a floating restaurant.

Toni/Dallas come in second, and Terrance/Sarah, Ken/Tina, and Team Frat arrive very close together. The frat boys can’t figure out how to get their pump working correctly, so they run around spying on other teams to try to figure it out. Their driver is totally laughing at them. The Divorcees come in last of this bunch, and they even finish before Team Frat makes any progress. Epic fail right there.

It’s a hot race on the trucks to the next leg. Terrance/Sarah pass Ken/Tina and Toni/Dallas, and Toni/Dallas also get passed by Ken/Tina. In the lead, Starr thinks their going the wrong way so she asks for directions – but the others are catching up. They get passed by both Terrance/Sarah and Toni/Dallas. The race continues on the boats – Nick/Starr and Toni/Dallas pass Ken/Tina. Meanwhile, Aja/Ty are just leaving the station.

The Divorcees feel bad about how the people are living in poor conditions. There’s some little kids riding in what looks like big cooking pots, and I know if I lived by a body of water I would’ve tried that as a kid. Terrance/Sarah are in the lead and close to Kho Andeth, but then there’s a *clunk* and the boat breaks. That’s what you get for yelling at it to go faster, you moron, Sarah.

Nick/Starr are first to the place, and it’s a Detour. Village Life includes getting items from three different locations and returning them to the dock. Village Work involves wading around and finding two traps filled with fish, then putting them in baskets at the dock. They chose Work, as do Toni/Dallas. Ken/Tina choose Life, while Terrance/Sarah choose Work, and their boat’s still busted. Aja/Ty are just showing up at the boats. Toni/Dallas are doing good, but get setback because someone grabbed a trap w/ no fish. The Divorcees go to one of the Life stops before they even got the clue, proving their stupidity once again. They choose Life, and Team Frat chooses Work.

Nick/Starr finish first, and the next stop is the Angkor Wat temple. Ken/Tina and Toni/Dallas are close behind. At the Detour, Aja/Ty choose Work. At Angkor Wat, Nick/Starr find the Roadblock – where someone must search the temple for one room, thump their chest, then take the next clue. Nick, Tina, Dallas, and Terrance all go in for their teams. Things don’t look good for Tina, she’s just wandering and thumping her chest anywhere. Nick keeps their lead, and they’re off to the Pit Stop at Bayan Temple.

Nick tries to throw off Tina as he leaves the temple, but she doesn’t need any help getting confused. She continues to be lost, as Dallas is next to find the clue. A local helps Terrance find the room. I have to snort when Tina walks RIGHT THROUGH the correct place. She finally finds it, and she goes right by it. Finally, she succeeds, and the Divorcee also has a local help her find the room. Team Frat got there before the Divorcees, and the Divorcees beat them out.

Nick/Starr are first to the Pit Stop – which totally looks like the set of “Legends of the Hidden Temple” (man, I loved that show!). Toni/Dallas come in second, with Ken/Tina a second behind. Team Frat leaves Angkor Wat as Aja/Ty arrive. Ken/Tina are 4th, Divorcees are 5th, and Team Frat’s safe in 6th.

Aja/Ty are last… and its NOT A NON-ELIM! This is a conspiracy, I swear! Sheesh, I should have gone with the Purchase hunch and chosen Nick/Starr. But awww, Ty’s going to move to LA to be with Aja. Seriously, I love them – but at least now that they’re gone, I won’t get mad anymore ‘cause of their cuteness. Oh, and Terrance/Sarah got a 30-minute penalty from their ticket, which will be applied at the next leg.
