10 Thoughts on Smackdown – 10.31.2008

Reviews, Shows, Top Story, TV Shows

After watching TNA Impact!, I needed a palette cleanser. Smackdown‘s consistent medocrity usually works in that regard!

1. Show selling the Gogoloplatillo during his show opening interview was a nice touch, as was the look on Chavo’s face when Vickie booked him in the casket. match. What I really liked was the fact that they used it in the hype graphic. It was like a cross between indigestion and resignation that he was doomed. It was wonderful.

2. The Colons vs. the Douches was a very good, long-ish (for free TV) opening match. It was kind of weird that the Colons got a lot of offense, given how much they’ve been building up Miz and Morrison for Monday, but it’s nice that they weren’t squashed, too.

3. Jimmy Wang gets a promo! And wins! By DQ. But still! That’s a nice change of pace for him. Although dressing dressing up as John Wayne for Halloween when already dresses up as a cowboy seemed pretty redundant, so he kind of deserved that post match beatdown just for that. It would be great if we could get a longer match between these two at some point. I wish I could come up with something snarky there about how it won’t happen, I really do, but right now, I just really wish they’d put that match on WWE TV.

4. Helms seems to be instigating a feud with MVP via his pop up video segments, so hey, that’s different.

5. The Hardys and Rey pulled out a spot (a double suplex/crossbody combo) that I can’t remember ever seeing outside of video games, in what was a pretty fun six man tag. That was cool.

6. I like that the HHH used the Rocky movies as a way to get cheap heat. So, I expect him to bring up a Stallone movie every time he has a promo from now on, if only because it would be interesting to see him tie Stop Or My Mom Will Shoot! in to a feud with Big Show.

7. I like how they’re building dissension between Maria and Michelle McCool. They’re trying to build up a feud there. That’s something.

8. Kizarny’s basically looks like a more effiminate Chris Jericho from 1999; the hair style is the same, but he added heavy eye liner. I’m actually more interested in seeing how they work the carny elements in to his matches than how he works. I’m not really sure how they’d do that, though. Give him loaded cotton candy?

9. The Casket Match was pretty much a handicap match due to Show’s interference, which was as good a way as any to keep things sort of competitive. I would have preferred for Chavo to just cheat eggregiously, but this was fine, too.

10. Kozlov vs. Undertaker next week. Wasn’t expecting it this soon, but it does make sense from a storyline perspective. So, that could be interesting. We’ll see.
