How I Met Your Mother – Episode 4-6 Review

Welcome back, after a nice little two week vacation. By the way, before we start, I just want to say that I hope you all go out and vote tomorrow. I don’t care for who, or what your stance is on the election, but it is just important that we all go out and vote. Anyway, now that I got that PSA out of the way, in the words of Vince Niel, “On to the show”

Rambling thoughts while wondering who I would hide under the table from (answer coming at the end!!!)

  • I loved the under the table idea. It was like the limo scenes, and taxicab scenes that they used to do. Well, actually, they did taxicab scenes, so all in all, good set choices. The intimacy of the under the table was just great. It really made the cast together seem together, seem like five really good friends. In recent episodes, there was a lot of split-group scenes, so to see all five of them interact in such small areas was great.
  • I just LOVED the “this is the person that I wouldn’t want to see under the table” bit. Seeing Lily as a high school goth was cool. Two points quickly about that. By now, you must all know that I love Alyson Hannigan (one point quickly, congrats to her and Alexis on their kid) and her work. To see her perfectly portray a high school kid was great. Second, if the goths in my high school turned out to be as hot as Lily, well, I may have payed more interest to them. Damn!! Maybe I got to look some of them up.
  • Another Aly Hannigan point. She looks great. She really has that newly-pregnant glow about her. I have no idea if she was pregnant at shooting, but it looked like she was, as she had some extra on her, and there is nothing wrong with that. She can even make a pregnant woman look absolutely stunning. Alexis Denisof, you are one lucky, lucky gentleman.
  • And now we’ll leave the Aly Hannigan-is-great-a-thon, and get back to your regularily scheduled blog.
  • Young Canadian Robin, that is something I want more of. The guy playing her dad, Robin Sr, was hilarious as the curmudgeon dad. However, he sounded absolutely not Canadian. Hmm, maybe he’s “Red Province” or from the “Depp North.”
  • I love the digs at Canada. I love Canada, by the way, and I still find them absolutely hilarious. Barney’s “and you were born in Canada, with America right below you. How did you live” line was great. It is always, always better to have a Canadian on board. Isn’t that right Mr. Michael Richards, and Mr. Colin Mochrie.
  • “When my body was developing.” “Wait” pulling out a recorder. That IS Comedy. I guess it played out better when you were watching. However, NPH is one amazing actor. His timing is absolutely Brilliant.
  • How come Marshall has no one he wouldn’t want to see come in. Maybe it’s because he is humongous. Or maybe it is that he does a brilliant Yoda impression. He is also one talented man. However, his hair is not one talented object. Get down to the Barbershop!
  • Angry Ted. That is also brilliant acting. In this episode, we really saw some great, great acting. That is what, in my opinion, separates this show from some of the other sitcoms. The actors and actresses are really good actors in general. NPH and Aly have tons of drama experience, and the others are also great. Even Cobie is slowly coming into her own.
  • As for the story itself. I liked the resolution. Having Stella end up happy, and content with her life, whether it be in NYC or NJ (btw, what a bitch move by her. Make Ted feel absolutely guilty about wanting her to move the NYC, then leaving him at the altar, and moving to NYC; the writer’s did a great job making everyone hate her). This show is not normal. In most comedies, Ted would’ve screamed at her but good, but that is what makes this show great. This show is alot about heart. This show is about reality.
  • Also, I loved the twist with Ted making her feel guilty, and then cutting back to the taxi. That was a total surprise.

Overall, this episode is a perfect example as to why I love this show. It is incredibly funny some days, and this was definitely one of those days. However, it is also a real, heart-filled show, that has its moments of true, human emotion. I love how they perfectly balance it in a way I have never seen. Friends tried, but I never thought it worked right. In this, it works perfectly. Here’s hoping this only continues. Also, here’s hoping Lily and Marshall don’t have a baby. We don’t need a baby to ruin the chemistry and the momentum the show has. As for Aly and Alexis, they need, and will get a baby, and they will be great parents I’m sure.

Check back next week. Sneak preview: There will be some baby talk!!
