UFC re-signs Martin Kampmann to four fight deal

News

The UFC has reportedly signed Martin Kampmann to a new four fight contract.

Kampmann owns a 13-2 overall mma record. He is coming off a TKO loss to Nathan Marquardt at UFC 88. Marquardt destroyed Kampmann, giving him the first blemish on his UFC record, which now stands at 4-1.

His most impressive victory to date was a decision win over rising middleweight star Thales Leites, someone Marquardt was unable to beat.

It has also rumored that “The Hitman,” dubbed so by a Danish MMA reporter, will drop down to welterweight for his next bout. This seems like a smart move, considering his smaller frame.

Being a member of Xtreme Couture should ensure that Kampmann’s best interests are in mind. The Dutch fighter said he’s received encouragement from many of his teammates, including team leader and current UFC heavyweight champion Randy Couture.

Look for him to be back in action in early 2009. It will be interesting to see who Joe Silva, the UFC’s mastermind matchmaker, puts him up against in his first welterweight fight.

Brian has been an avid fan of MMA ever since he saw Randy Couture beat Vitor Belfort back at UFC 15. In 2008, he decided to embark on a new career by combining his love of MMA and writing. Brian received his M.B.A. from Texas Tech University and currently resides in New York City.
