Mourn not for Hank Hill and his Texas family after they leave FOX next year. Long live King of the Hill on cable.
Adult Swim announced that King of the Hill will help kick off the expansion of its late-night programming block, which will soon run seven nights a week.
Beginning in January 2009, the new schedule will have Adult Swim goodness starting at 10 p.m. every evening. Thanks to a multi-year licensing agreement with Twentieth Television, the Emmy-winning King of the Hill has the honor of beginning the Adult Swim programming each night.
“Adult Swim has been a consistent ratings winner,” says Stuart Snyder, president and chief operating officer of Turner Broadcasting’s Animation, Young Adults and Kids Media group. “By expanding the network with exciting new programming, which speaks directly to our audience, Adult Swim and AdultSwim.com can continue to grow and be the dominant brand with men 18-34.”
Mike Lazzo, Adult Swim’s senior VP of programming and production adds, “With King of the Hill joining Family Guy in our Adult Swim lineup we now have two of the greatest animated series ever made.”
Adult Swim has topped the ratings with men 18-34 for 12 of the last 14 quarters.
King of the Hill is currently in its 12th season on FOX and has not been renewed for the following years. There’s been much speculation as to its fate, including interest by ABC to pick up the animated series.
