Much-hyped heavyweight UFC star Fabricio Werdum, fresh off a dramatic knockout loss to newcomer Junior dos Santos at UFC 90, has left the company after a failed contract re-negotiation.
Werdum’s time served in the UFC cannot be described as anything but rocky. He’s been a vocal critic of the decision to give Brock Lesnar a shot at Randy Couture’s heavyweight belt, feeling that he (Werdum) deserved the first shot. He’s been one of the alleged top heavyweights in the world over the past few years, but showed up for his fight with dos Santos roughly 25 pounds over his typical fighting weight and appeared out of shape and soft.
Werdum has certainly learned one important lesson: if you’re trying to get out of your UFC contract or get yourself fired, just start criticizing company decisions. You’ll be gone before you know it.
