Lightning Fire Melrose

Atleast he’s got a nice job to fall back on.

After spending plenty of money to bring in plenty of talent this offseason, the Tampa Bay Lightning have fired the head coach they hired to lead all that talent. Barry Melrose was shown the door after just 16 games (shockingly enough he wasn’t even the first coach fired this year). Melrose had led the Bolts to a 5-7-4 record.

The team started off slow but was had shown promise recently. The team was very sound defensively as shown by the team’s numerous 1 goal losses. The 4 overtime losses are tied for most in the NHL.

Rick Tocchet will take over the coaching duties for the time being. And you may be asking yourself a question right about now. “Rick Tocchet…where do I know that name from?” Well, that’s a good question, you may know him from his playing days, but it’s much more likely that you know him from the gambling ring he was busted for a mere year and a half ago. That’s right, the new coach of the Lightning was convicted on gambling charges. Gotta love this team.
