Haye Wins, Calls Out Klitschko

News, Results

David Haye put together a strong performance last Saturday in his debut heavyweight bout. The British slugger put Monte Barret down five times on his way to a 5th round TKO. It was Haye’s first fight at heavyweight after unifying the titles in the cruiserweight division. The fight was a WBC Eliminator, meaning Haye has earned a shot at WBC champion Vitali Klitschko. Haye welcomes the challenge from Vitali and made it clear that he would welcome a challenge from either Klitschko, Vitali or Wladimir.

“I’m the number one cruiserweight in the world. Now I want to clean up the heavyweight division,” Haye said. “To do that I need to get past the Klitschko brothers, hopefully beat one of the Klitschko brothers and then the other. Beat the two Klitschkos next year, that’s my plan.”

That’s a tough task for Haye, but hopefully he can ignite some excitement into the heavyweight division. Holyfield-Valuev surely isn’t the answer.
