The Eighth Season Will Be the Final Season of Monk on the USA Network!

The defective detective will soon be closing up shop.

The USA network said Friday that its sleuth comedy Monk will be picked up for its eighth and final season, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The final 16 episodes will debut in the summer.

Monk has been a consistent performer in the ratings, which supports the report that all parties decided to end the show while it was still creatively strong, and not because of poor performance.

Monk stars Tony Shalhoub as a private detective who suffers from obsessive-compulsive disorder. The show has won numerous awards, including an Emmy and Golden Globe for Shalhoub’s performance. A special holiday episode of Monk will air on USA on Friday, Nov. 28, before the holiday episode of Psych.

More importantly, I watch WAY too much television, but I do so for the benefit of everyone reading this now. So to my mom and my wife, I say thanks for reading! To everyone else that might stumble across this, remember TiVo should be your best friend!
