10 Thoughts on Friday Night Smackdown for 11-21-08

Reviews, Shows, TV Shows

Or, ten variations on “What a dull go home show.”

Seriously. This show just did nothing for me. Sure, it had the deck stacked against it, given how awesome last week’s was,

1. The opening match set the tone. It was just kind of there. I can’t think of anything to write about it one way or the other. Well, Killings got the fall on Shelton. That was something.

2. HHH+Eve’s breasts+pearls= comedy, I guess.

3. The Douches became the first team to exploit Festus’s whole Pavlovian response to the bell during a match. That was pretty cool.

4. This was the third Hardy vs. Hs match since No Mercy. It was the lesser of that series so far although still a solid, longish TV match. Jeff’s second big win in two weeks, which would feel like a bigger deal if I thought it were leading to his big title win.

5. The Colons vs. Kendrick and ‘Zeke established the heels as the new challengers and made ‘Zeke look like a monster, but again, it was a pretty dull match.

6. MVP lost to James Mason, because jobbing to Kung Funaki twice wasn’t enough jobbing out for him. At least it gives me the excuse to link to an Eddie Izzard bit, but still, it’s getting depressing. I do have to wonder how much the folsk in the audience who couldn’t care less that he’s a good worker being buried are enjoying his repeated his embarassment, though.

7. Apparently, bad emo poetry is part of Jeff’s new crazy gimmick.

8. If you always wanted to see twins who sort of resemble Megan Fox if you squint rip off the Killer Bs gimmick, then does WWE have the Diva act for you!

9. Big Show keeps claiming he’s beaten Undertaker twice. When was the other time? Was it some sort of moral victory? In the nine years they’ve both been in WWE, the only time I remember Show beating him was at No Mercy.

10. Vickie sprinting out of the casket was a kind of funny old school heel thing, I guess.

So, yeah, not exactly the best hard sell show for Survivor Series. Hopefully taping back in the States will lead to a better show next week.
