Ask Michelle & Murtz: Survivor: Gabon – Episode 10

Features, Shows

Michelle: I’m back here already?! Murtz, are you around?

Murtz: Haha. I am right here. It’s Jaime who has been missing for awhile. Have you seen her around? Okay enough with the Carmen Sandiego games! I want to talk about this week’s episode! What did you think about Randy’s exit? Man, oh man. I never thought for a second that we wouldn’t be talking about Randy leaving the game this week, but I just couldn’t believe Sugar’s dastardly play. In fact, I don’t know what’s more unbelievable. Sugar’s unnecessary deception or Bob going along with that. MICHELLE! What did you think?

Michelle: Whoa whoa, Murtz! I never pinned you to be one who would go all moral on me for Survivor! ::laughs:: I’d think you’d been screaming for more! I lurved it. I know how it is, being on that island, lotheing every bit of a person. Sugar was given the chance to get her jab back, guaranteed, and I’m glad she took it! I’ve never been a fan of blondes, but she made a good play. How are we on the Hot Girl report? Susie’s looking quite svelte ::winks::

Murtz: Hahaha. I don’t know what’s funnier. You talking about Susie or your use of the word ‘svelte.’ For the girl factor, it’s like you said. It’s blonde or bust this season. With Kelly and Jacquie being eliminated before their time, I guess Sugar is the only one I can root for. But how can I after she did what she did to Ace and Randy (my two favorite players!)? It’s like that age-old dilemma that every guy goes through. Do I root for the hottest player or the one that is most strategy. I guess that’s why I liked Parvati as much as I did. She was the best of both worlds. Anyway, I don’t agree with you that she made a good play. Because if she makes it to the end, I think that move will cost her any chance she has with the jury so I hope her laughs were worth it. In any event, I think that Randy was probably the victim of editing or something. I know that when Jaime and Eliza both used the idol, they knew it was fake and I am pretty sure the best player this season knew it was fake as well but used it anyway since he had no other moves left. Thoughts?

Michelle: ::laughs:: For the record, I don’t think every guy goes through the dilemma of rooting for the hottest player of the one with most strategy. ::giggles:: You’re one of a kind, Murtz. As for Randy, I’m sure he had suspicions that the idol could’ve been fake, but that’s the nature of the game. Bottom line, he played it, thinking he just scored big. Too bad. So sad. That’s the game. I’ll miss him too, but we’ve got picks to get on to! No need to dwell on the past!

Murtz: Haha, but it’s a tough week for us because I don’t think we agree at all this week. For example, I don’t like the moves that Sugar and Bob made from a strategy perspective. And I am not sure if anyone really had a good week in terms of gameplay.

Michelle: Is THAT so?! I can’t say I entirely agree with your opinions– Not a surprise. So, I guess it’s going to be purgatory for two lucky players this week. Off, off, and away!

MURTZ AND MICHELLE’S PURGATORY

KENNY

Michelle: Okay, I have to admit, Kenny has surprised me (and I’m sure a lot of others out there). He came into this game just a kid, but now he’s getting into the swing of it and proving to be quite the Survivor player. Impressive work with keeping his team together and great performances in the challenges. Unfortunately we can see that vindictive streak coming out, and that is something the game of Survivor does NOT have the patience for. Now, he’s just got to keep that ego in check, because we all know the tallest blade of grass, is the first to be cut! What do you think about Kenny’s performance?

Murtz: Well, I am not sure how I feel about Kenny’s game. What I do know for sure is that he is now the undisputed King of Gabon. No one else who is left is playing the game. I feel like Corinne could, but she is out of cards. On paper, it seems like Kenny has a smooth sail to the end of the game. Do you honestly see anyone stepping up to challenge him? Maybe it is possible, and if it is I feel like the only one who could do it is Sugar. I like the fact that Kenny single-handedly put together his band of misfits in what many are calling the worst alliance of all-time. And while that might be the case, Kenny is the leader of the weak and that is a very strong position to be in. It was brilliant on his part to figure out who the lambs were and then get them to systematically carry out his wishes. What I don’t like is that I do believe that shades of his ego are starting to come out. Actually, I take it back. I like ego. How can I like Ace and Randy’s egos and not like Kenny’s? Is there a difference? Argh! I can’t figure it out. That’s why I think Kenny is in purgatory!

BOB

Murtz: Michelle, I know you and I disagree about Bob this week but I just don’t think he knows what he is doing. I do not see why he gave Randy the fake idol because it served him no purpose other than to make Randy look bad and cost him a potential jury vote. That is not rational to me. He didn’t have any big issues with Randy (at least that we saw on the show). It’s one thing if Sugar or Crystal did it because we know they hate Randy, but Bob was even in an alliance with the guy. If I am right, the only reason Bob would agree to Sugar’s diabolical scheme is because he thought it would get him in with the Kenny alliance. But this can’t be it because Bob didn’t vote for Randy. He voted for Susie. That’s why I am baffled. Why would you set Randy up only to cast your vote elsewhere? The only plausible explanation is that Bob still wants Corinne’s loyalty while making the others believe he is with them. Unfortunately, I do not give Bob that much credit.

Michelle: Oh, Murtz… I think Bob knows just what’s he’s doing. First of all, I don’t think his vote for Susie demonstrates any kind of ‘not-knowing-what’s-going-on’-ness. There’s a certain presentation he has to give off. Randy’s walking away knowing he got duped, but at the same time, he knows Bob voted Susie. That’ll give him something to think about. And this gives Bob time to give a good excuse to Corrine. That’s smart play if you ask me! Especially because you never know what’s going to happen next. But mostly, I give props to Bob for handing off that fake idol. Now THAT’S ballsy. That’s the kind of combination of courage and deceit that yields Survivor winners. He knows his chips are down, and Bob is willing to make the call to do what it takes to keep him in the game another round, and perhaps make some very desperately needed new friends this late in the game. Well played, well played.
