Academy Award-winning director Alex Gibney’s documentary about the larger-than-life journalist, social commentator, and all around troublemaker Hunter S. Thompson has been adorned with critical praise as one of the best documentaries of the year. Thompson was the creator of Gonzo journalism and wrote many books including his Fear and Loathing series. Most people will know him from the book Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas which was made into a movie starring Depp as Thompson.
The DVD features several extras including a director’s commentary, deleted scenes, extended interviews with Thompson, “The Gonzo Tapes” audio inserts, a live acoustic tribute by Tift Merritt, drawings by Ralph Steadman, photo galleries, and one featurette simply titled “Hunter’s Guns.”
