Heroes – Episode 3-10 Review

Shows, Top Story

OK, so now we know for certain that the eclipse can both give and take away powers, although that doesn’t mean that it WILL happen. We know that the first eclipse we saw on this show activated the powers of some of the major characters on the show. But that was in the past. This second eclipse was, to put it mildly, a decimation, and it appears to have depowered ALL of the superhumans in the world.

We get some interesting interactions here. First, Hiro and Ando hook up with Parkman and Daphne, thanks to Parkman’s orders and Hiro acquiring the 9th Wonders comic telling them to do so. We end up going to Lawrence, Kansas, where Hiro and Ando meet up with the TV show kiss of death. No, not Jerry O’Connell, Breckin Meyer. I gather that he and Seth Green are fans of the show, and they get a brief cameo by appearing in the comic shop in Kansas. Yeah, real thrilling. What we learn here is that, depowered, Hiro’s 10-year old mind does not revert, and that Daphne’s a paraplegic. Daphne was very reluctant to return, and we can see that going home brings back memories of being unble to walk without crutches and braces.

Meanwhile, Mohinder is still looking for ways to improve the formula without the catalyst contained within Claire. But with the decimation (or should I call it E-Day?) his timetable has been accelerated a bit. It probably helps that the decimation (or maybe his cocoon) has turned him back to normal, although maybe not since this could turn Mohinder back to his idiot-thinking ways. Regardless, Arthur is kinda sorta hoping that he gets his power back, since it would be quite helpful in his quest for world domination and all.

Peter and Nathan have gone to Haiti to find the Haitian and… you know, I really don’t care all that much. It’s an excuse to have the two of them bicker at one another about their inadequacies. And now that they’ve found the Haitian, it’s kinda useless since his negation power has been, er, negated.

Finally, we get to see Claire learn how to fight, with H.R.G. taking a page out of The Matrix and goading Neo, er Claire to hit him. It’s maybe a couple of hours at most, but in the end, Claire sure don’t know Kung Fu – although I suspect she could do well as a walk on for the high school baseball team. The new couple of Elle and Sylar find them, having been tasked with retrieving Claire by Arthur, and H.R.G. shows us that the “one of us” side has some combat training to help against “them”. And he beats up Sylar but good. Guess he’s been waiting for that.

I’ve been feeling that this arc has been building quite well to next weeks’ conclusion, and I think that we’re seeing that perhaps the firing of Loeb and Alexander was a bit too much of a knee jerk reaction. But time will tell. All I know is that it’s going to be a tough time going without my Heroes fix.
