Make Movement: The John Cena Show

Columns

The three most interesting things to come from the WWE this week:

-The tasteless angle with Jeff Hardy that felt too real for many of us. Nothing says bad taste like putting a storyline out there that Jeff Hardy was found unconscious in the stairwell of his hotel and passing it on like legit news. WWE must have a short memory because the media and the fans take stories like this more seriously than most – way to go WWE with your credibility. Everyone’s aware of Jeff’s past, as well as the countless tragedies that I don’t need to name in recent years with wrestling talent. Not cool. The storyline itself was pretty lame and Triple H versus Vladimir Kozlov was getting crapped on by the live audience, with Hardy (getting the only real face reaction) coming out to attack Edge, who of course was planted into the match with no real explanation. Hardy doesn’t need a false attack or crazy gimmick to get over WWE, news flash: fans already love him.

The John Cena Show. There is no shock that John Cena was going to defeat Jericho at Survivor Series in a decent match. The real issue is the staleness of John Cena’s Hogan-esque character. How MANY times does WWE need to use Cena as the cheerleader ‘I’m here because of you, we’re here because of you’ dialogue? I’ve heard it before, I understand it already. I deeply feel Cena’s character has no depth anymore and hasn’t in years. He’s predictable, just because the WWE let him be more aggressive on Monday, doesn’t change this. I don’t question that Cena is a hard worker and a very likeable guy outside the ring – but something needs to change up in his character, because he’s bringing nothing new to the table.

The Focus On The IC Championship. Of course I credit WWE pushing the division again with the upcoming DVD release highlighting the IC Championship History – however, it’s nice to see a belt pushed as opposed to not (see: tag team championship). The problem with the WWE is consistency, if they would learn how to push everything equally, the ratings would be steady, the PPV buy rates up.

Finally, as a bonus, welcome back Melina. Sweet new move too – even though the WWE production team spoiled your surprise, it’s nice to have you back.
