It’s Friday night! Grab a beer, grab a chair, and follow along with us for the next two hours. Last week on Smackdown, Triple H and Jeff Hardy continued their feud while Vladimir Kozlov had Matt Hardy in his sights and The Big Show and Undertaker faced each other in a steel cage! What happens next…
THE WHOLE WORLD IS WATCHING
Jeff Hardy runs out and attacks Triple H as Vickie and Chavo Guerrero appear while the referee is trying to break up the battle. Chavo gets in the middle and he gets punched, four more refs and manage to break up the battle. Trips sends ref Charles Robinson into Vickie and she’s on the floor with Chavo laughing at her. The banshee is screeching but I can’t understand a word she is saying but HHH goes after Hardy again before the two are finally pulled apart and we go to commercial break.
We are back to a repeat of what we saw before the break. Our announcers this evening are Jim Ross and Tazz.
Montel Vontavious Porter vs. R-Truth
Truth does his usual entrance through the audience singing his entrance theme on his way to the ring. He’s carrying his Slammy Award with him. I miss Porter’s entrance. JR points out that MVP has been on a losing streak and Porter is arguing with the ref before the bell rings. Montel comes out with a knee and a few punches but it doesn’t work well as R-Truth comes back. MVP is back in charge and goes for a cover but he only gets two.
Montel again tries for a cover and again gets two. Truth attempts a comeback, gets caught, and again Porter gets two. MVP attempts another set up, Truth counters, goes for a roll up and gets the three.
Winner: R-Truth with a roll up
This match was too short and didn’t do anything as an opener. On a positive note, MVP takes the mic and enters the ring to complain about his bad luck. Mr. Kennedy makes his way out to grab a mic and MVP’s mic is suddenly dead. Kennedy pimps his movie that is coming out on DVD next month and then does his Mr. Kennedy announcement. We have commercials for DVDs now in the show and we go to commercial break.

Ross informs us that Smackdown is being broadcast from Connecticut on MyNetworkTV. We then see a video recap of last Monday night’s Slammy Awards. Chris Jericho won the 2008 Superstar of the Year Award. And we see a video of someone new and he sounds interesting as in totally evil but there is no name mentioned or shown. Backstage Brian Kendrick hits on the Bella Twins but Primo and Carlito get involved and then along comes Ezekiel Jackson to make sure there is no problem, Primo and Carlito argue and we go to commercial break.
We see more video of the Slammy Awards with John Morrison and Miz winning the 2008 Tag Team Slammy.

We actually have wrestling to start off the match, nice holds and counters with Kendrick getting the worst of the damage. Brian slaps Primo, bails, Primo follows, and all four men are standing outside the ring with Kendrick hiding behind Zeke. Back in the ring, Primo comes back with some well placed fists but TBK goes to work with his legs and feet and Primo ends up on the floor. Back in the ring, Brian goes for the cover and gets two. Kendrick argues with the ref, telling him he has to give him a five count before he can disqualify him after he attempts to choke Primo. TBK charges with the knee but Primo gets out of the way and he meets the top turnbuckle. Primo covers and gets two but Brian is back up and goes to work with his feet. Primo delivers a clothesline and a dropkick, a springboard with a cross body block off the ropes and a cover for two. Primo climbs, Jackson comes around and sends Carlito into the steel steps and the distraction allows Kendrick to get an inside cradle and the win.
Winner: “The†Brian Kendrick with an inside cradle
A much better match, flowing and impressive moves by both workers. Kendrick is very good and Primo looks better every time he gets a chance to shine in the ring. We again see a video of the Hard/HHH feud and we go to commercial break.

Hurricane Helms vs. “The Gold Standard†Shelton Benjamin
Helms made his debut last week and he looked good. The bell rings and Benjamin goes for an early pin but Hurricane ends up in the corner. Helms comes off the top rope but Shelton nails him on the way down, Helms ends up on the floor and Shelton goes out after him. Back in the ring, Benjamin covers but Helms kicks out. Shelton delivers a swinging neck breaker, covers and gets two. Benjamin decides to use fists over wrestling moves and then delivers an arm bar but Hurricane works his way up and gets his opponent’s shoulders down before he gets taken back down to the mat. Helms delivers a neck breaker goes for a Shining Wizard, Benjamin counters and delivers a back breaker, covers and gets two. Hurricane delivers a roll up but Benjamin kicks out. Helms goes to the top, comes off with a cross body, and gets three.
Winner: Hurricane Helms via pinfall
Hurricane looks a little tentative going up to the top but he comes off with complete confidence. This was a nice match and a good showing of both workers. Tazz has a mic in the ring and Helms says he thinks it’s time for a new United States Champion. The Cutting Edge is coming up and we go to commercial break.

“The Rated R Superstar†Edge is hosting The Cutting Edge and he reminds everyone that it is only two days until Armageddon and brags about his two opponents trying to kill each other. He reminds everyone that Trips is the one that attacked Jeff and he doesn’t like that everyone is pointing their finger at him as the culprit. Matt Hardy, the man who will face Vladimir Kozlov at Armageddon, ECW Champion is Edge’s guest. Hardy tells Edge was he was the one who attacked Jeff and he wants the truth. Matt hits Edge, Vladimir appears to take out Hardy and he does and we go to commercial break.
We see a video of the Slammy Awards again, this time with The Great Khali, Mickie James and a kiss to Ron Simmons “DAMN!â€.
2 on 1 Handicap Match: The Great Khali with Ranjin Singh vs. Zack Ryder and Curt Hawkins
Khali appears to have managed to avoid the Kiss Cam this week. Singh stands at ringside holding the Slammy Award as Khali beats up his opponents. Khali delivers what JR calls The Punjabi Plunge and gets the three count on both Hawkins and Ryder.
Winner: The Great Khali with the Punjabi Plunge
Not much of a match although Hawkins and Ryder both have red backs and chests from their time in the ring. HHH is backstage and he says that Jeff believes HHH is the one that attacked him but he says he did not do it and that Jeff wasn’t a big enough threat for him to bother. And we go to commercial break.

WWE Smack of the Week: We see a repeat of The Cutting Edge tonight with Matt Hardy taking out Edge before Matt is attacked by The Moscow Mauler.
Brie and Nikki Bella vs. Maryse and Natalya
Maryse begins the match with whichever twin and delivers a slap. Maryse gets taken down and tags in Natalya who gets double-teamed by the twins. Maryse gets knocked off the apron, Natalya goes for a cover for two. Maryse gets the tag, delivers a back breaker, covers and gets one. Natalya tags in and whichever twin tags, Natalya is covered by kicks out. Maryse again gets knocked off the apron, the twins double-team Natalya who is covered and this time the Bellas get the three.
Winners: The Bella Twins
This was not an impressive match. I realize WWE is building the Bella Twins but it does not make me happy to see Natalya not being used in decent matches. Vladimir is backstage to talk about how he will win the title this Sunday and we go to commercial break.
Mr. Goldberg, the voice of NECW, tells me that New England Championship Wrestling is having their “The Power of Love†Toys for Tots show tomorrow night. JR and Tazz run down the card for this Sunday’s Armageddon. We again see a video of what happened as the show opened between Jeff, HHH and the Guerreros.

Jeff Hardy
Jeff is not wearing his extreme paint tonight and he actually looks a little worried but when the bell rings, Hardy goes after Trips making him bail out with Jeff right behind him. The return to the ring has Hardy slow enough to give The Game an edge and it ends up on the floor again. Jeff comes off the apron to dive into HHH on the floor before sending him into the steel steps. Hardy delivers another high dive and both are down on the floor with Hardy holding his right arm. Trips is back in first and he drops a returning Jeff with a clothesline, both are down in the ring and we go to commercial break.
Back to the action, Hardy is still holding his arm as HHH sends him into the corner post twice, goes for the cover for two. Jeff sends Trips over the top rope and leaps over after him and they are both down on the floor. Hardy is still selling the arm as he rolls The Game back into the ring but he misses a charge when Trips moves out of the way, Trips covers and gets two. HHH goes to work with fists to the face, a suplex, a knee drop, a cover and he gets two. Triple H delivers a face buster, covers and gets two. Jeff tries to come back and ends up on the floor. The Game slams his face into the announcer’s table, no not the Spanish table, JR and Tazz’s table, and then does it again before rolling him back in. Hardy comes off the ropes with a flying clothesline but can’t cover. Jeff hits the flying clothesline again, covers and gets two. Hardy goes to work with his feet, covers and gets two. Trips comes back with a spine buster, covers and gets two. Several moves and counters, Jeff hits Whisper in the Wind, delayed cover and two with members of the audience on their feet. Hardy delivers a face buster, rips off his shirt, climbs to the top but took too long and gets caught by The Game. Jeff comes off the top and misses the Swanton bomb and, as expected, Edge appears to deliver spears to both.
Winner: No one including the fans
I have been pleasantly surprised by the way Jeff and HHH work against each other but am very tired of the lack of ending to their matches. They had a great match going and it would have been great to see one of them win.
