Denis Kang: Not Just Another UFC Debut

Columns

On January 17th, Denis Kang will make his long-awaited UFC debut against young up and comer Alan Belcher. For those of you who do not watch the Japanese promotions of K-1, Pride, or Dream this may appear to be just another jabroni making his UFC debut; however for those who are familiar with his work, this is a very exciting event. If there is one fighter in the middleweight division that could give Anderson “The Spider” Silva problems, it is indeed Denis Kang.

Just a few of Kang’s career highlights include a 23 fight streak without a loss and 15 second knock out of Pride FC veteran Murilo “Ninja” Rua is only 15 seconds. He also holds victories over notable opponents: Akihiro Gono, Amar Suloev, Mark Weir, Marvin Eastman and Andrei Semenov, just to name a few.

Kang started as strictly a mat based fighter, using his black belt in jiu-jitsu to take opponents to the ground and submit them, but with his years of training at American Top Team has also developed into one of the hardest hitting and accurate middleweight strikers the game has ever seen. His well rounded style will create problems for all the other middleweights the UFC.

For UFC fans, take this as a warning. When Kang is the man to knock off Anderson Silva, don’t say I didn’t tell you so.
