NBC’s talent deal with Hilary Duff has borne some fruit, as she’s set to star in a comedy project at the network.

Duff has taken the lead role in a show called Barely Legal, a show about an 18-year-old who passes the California bar exam and becomes the state’s youngest attorney. The show is based on the true story of Kathleen Holtz, who passed the bar in 2007.

The project currently has a script commitment, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Elisa Bell (Vegas Vacation, Little Black Book) is writing the project, and actor Rob Morrow ( Numb3rs) is executive producing through his company Bits and Pieces Productions.

Duff signed a talent deal with NBC in November. Barely Legal would be her first starring role in a prime-time series, although she’s guested on shows like Frasier and Joan of Arcadia in the past.

The show is the second project about a young female lawyer on NBC’s development slate this year. The network also has Legally Mad, a David E. Kelley dramedy about a law-school grad (Charity Wakefield) who joins her father’s firm.

I'm not embarrassed to say that my favorite television show of all-time is The O.C. I live by the motto "you can't fight fate!" More importantly, I watch WAY too much television, but I do so for the benefit of everyone reading this now. So to my mom and my wife, I say thanks for reading! To everyone else that might stumble across this, remember TiVo should be your best friend!
