Roland Emmerich Begins Building A Foundation

Columbia pictures has won the writes to the classic science fiction “Foundation” novels by Isaac Asimov and Roland Emmerich is going to be directing it.

The story, which began as a series of short stories in 1942 and ended up consisting of seven novels, is a complex saga that takes place over 500 years. Humans live on planets scattered throughout the galaxy, living under the rule of the Galactic Empire. A psycho-historian, Hari Seldon, who can scientifically read the future sees an imminent empire collapse, and sets to work preparing to save the knowledge of mankind.

It is unknown at this time how much of series will be used for the film or if multiple films are being planned.

Emmerich has brought up such riveting films as Universal Soldier, Independence Day, Godzilla (1998), The Day After Tomorrow, The Patriot and last years 10,000 B.C. But he also brought us Stargate so he’s not all bad.
