Absolutely Fabulous Remake Coming To America on FOX

News, Shows

Iconic Britcom Absolutely Fabulous (a.k.a. Ab Fab) is coming to America. On Fox. As a remake. Variety is reporting that a pilot has been ordered for the comedy, which will be set in Los Angeles (instead of London) but will focus on the same characters – at least in name. Original series creator Jennifer Saunders, perhaps best known in the U.S. as the voice of the Fairy Godmother in Shrek 2, will be an executive producer on the show. Christine Zander will also serve as an excutive producer.

Absolutely Fabulous centres around two fad and fashion-obsessed friends, Edina and Patsy, and Edina’s struggle to achieve fame and success. Much of the show is based around the pair being drunk and/or stoned (and thus has a lot of physical comedy) so it will be interesting to see how this is reworked to appeal to the more conservative American viewing audience.

Kevin Wong writes for Primetime Pulse, Reality Dish and Inside Fights. He’s thinking that this remake will be more Coupling than The Office.
