PETA "Veggie Love" Ad Too Sexy For The Super Bowl

News

The Super Bowl experience is more than just watching the game, it’s also about beer, camaraderie and — if PETA is to be believed — sex and vegetables.

In its latest attempt to entice omnivores to the chard side, the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has released a racy ad featuring lingerie-clad models getting intimate with vibrantly firm veggies with the words, “Studies Show Vegetarians Have Better Sex” over the images.

NBC’s Advertising Standards department, however, would have none of it. In a letter to PETA, NBC flagged all the fun bits, claiming that the spot “depicts a level of sexuality exceeding our standards.” So the ad won’t be seen during the Super Bowl unless PETA edits out the women doing the following:

– licking pumpkin
– touching her breast with her hand while eating broccoli
– pumpkin from behind between legs
– rubbing pelvic region with pumpkin
– screwing herself with broccoli
– asparagus on her lap appearing as if it is ready to be inserted into vagina
– licking eggplant
– rubbing asparagus on breast

See for yourself:

This is nothing new for PETA, the animal rights organization that has made a reputation for its controversial campaigns. On the heavier side PETA has compared animal farming conditions to the Holocaust, whereas on the lighter side, it’s featured celebrities in the nude for anti-fur ads.

NBC may object to the spot’s raciness, but the network isn’t foolproof. Last year, a Super Bowl ad for Salesgenie.com was criticized for an allegedly racist depiction of cartoon pandas speaking with fake Chinese accents.

More importantly, I watch WAY too much television, but I do so for the benefit of everyone reading this now. So to my mom and my wife, I say thanks for reading! To everyone else that might stumble across this, remember TiVo should be your best friend!
