Vic Darchinyan vs. Jorge Arce Preview

Previews

February features a lot of great fights in boxing but none will be more exciting than Vic Darchinyan vs. Jorge Arce. These two have been feuding for many years and throughout different weight classes. They finally meet in the ring for the first time on February 7th on Showtime in a fight that you will regret missing.

Vic Darchinyan vs. Jorge Arce (WBC/WBA/IBF Super Flyweight Title)
Money Line: Darchinyan -350; Arce +275

This fight is years in the making. Both have been trash-talking each other but a fight was never put together. Arce had the flair but was humbled in his loss to Cristian Mijares. Arce has done well for himself since that loss, winning five straight. He’s always looking for the knockout and seems to be at his best during wild exchanges.

Vic Darchinyan seemed to be chasing Arce from one weight class to another, trying to get the Mexican fighter into the ring. Darchinyan landed on Arce’s radar by upsetting the man that upended Arce’s run, Cristian Mijares. Darchinyan seemed to be nearing the end of his prime before that fight but he showed the world he was still at the top of his game.

Fight Predictions

Corey: This one is must-see boxing. It’s almost misleading to call it “boxing” because both guys pretty much throw skill out the window. This one is all about hard punches and sturdy chins. In addition to being able to handle the smaller man’s punches, I think Darchinyan is the much better fighter between the two of them and wins with a late knockout, around the tenth round.

Trent: This is the only fight under 122 lbs that I want to see. And I’ve wanted to see it for a long time. I can’t wait to disagree with Corey on one of these picks but this is not the fight. The Mijares fights are all the indicators you need for who will win this fight. Styles certainly make fights but I see Darchinyan laying waste to Arce. Arce may be able to run and wear Darchinyan out but that would be a huge bummer for the fans. Arce won’t go out like that. He will want to trade and he will get caught often. Fifth round TKO for Darchinyan.
