Pulse Wrestling’s Real Time Monday Night Raw Report 02/16/2009

Shows, Top Story, TV Shows

It is President’s Day in the USA! For those of you who had the day off, ease into tomorrow’s work day and for those of you who had to go to work, grab a drink, a seat, and unwind with two hours of Raw action as we cover the backlash from yesterday’s No Way Out…

Your regular host, Paul Marshall, is out of action today and your Friday Night Smackdown host is filling in. Get well, soon, Mr. Marshall!

THE WHOLE WORLD IS WATCHING!

Raw is being brought to us from Spokane, WA on the USA Network and our ringside announcers are Michael Cole and Jerry “The King” Lawler.

Smackdown’s General Manager, Vickie Guerrero, opens the show tonight to introduce the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion, “The Rated R Superstar” Edge and they get the same jeers from the Raw audience as they get from the Smackdown audience. Edge compares himself to Jesus. I don’t think that is going to go over well with religious leaders. According to Vickie, the reason Edge was allowed into the second Elimination Chamber match because Stephanie went to the hospital with Shane and Vickie was left in charge. John Cena, who lost the title, may have something to say about what happened last night, as his music is heard and he makes his way to the ring. Cena congratulates Edge for winning the title and points out to the audience that Edge won the title fair and square but calls his favorite “R” word…rematch. Edge says he competed in two elimination chamber matches last night, he won’t be defending the title tonight and he and Vickie are going back to Smackdown. The two exchange words and John grabs the Rated R Superstar by the shirt to tell him if Edge tries to hide, he will find him. If Edge tries to run, he will catch him and he will hurt him. Shane McMahon is backstage and he calls Randy Orton out tonight and we go to commercial break.

Six Man Tag Team Match: Shad and JTG, Cryme Tyme, and CM Punk, Intercontinental Champion vs. William Regal with Layla and Ted DiBiase and Cody Rhodes, Simply Priceless

The referee calls for the bell and Punk and Rhodes lock up in the ring. The fans are hot for Punk and we have a shoving match, Cody slaps Punk, Punk kicks Rhodes, delivers the GTS, Regal breaks up the pin and we go to commercial break.

Back to the action, Dibiase and Punk are in the ring, Punk knocks William off the apron, Ted tosses Punk out and Regal slams his head into the ring before rolling him back in. Dibiase tags in William who goes for a cover, getting two. The audience chants “CM Punk” as Punk struggles to get back to his feet. Regal tags in Cody who delivers a kick and then stomps on Punk, covers and gets two. Rhodes body slams Punk, delivers a knee to the head, covers and gets two. Ted gets the tag, delivers another kick to the head, covers and gets two. Cody gets the tag, a little double team action, and Punk manages to deliver a high kick to the head. Dibiase gets the tag but so does JTG before Punk gets sent over the top rope. JTG sends Regal to the floor, covers Ted, gets back to his feet to stop Rhodes who has entered the ring, Shad is in, Dibiase, covers JTG and gets three.

Winners: Dibiase, Rhodes and Regal via pinfall.

It was a nice fast paced match and CM Punk is always fun to watch. Stephanie is backstage trying to talk Shane out of meeting Orton but Shane wins the argument and we go to commercial break.

“Y2J” Chris Jericho is in the ring to tell everyone not to vote for Mickey Rourke for Best Actor because it will create problems for all of the old wrestlers who will suddenly decide to drag themselves out of retirement. “Rowdy” Roddy Piper enters the ring to a standing ovation from the crowd. Piper wants to know what happened to the entertaining Jericho and tells him to “please shut the hell up”. Roddy backs up his friend, Rourke, and backs up the movie “The Wrestler”. Rowdy says it is about respect and the physical and emotional pain and why wrestlers do what they do. He says as long as the fans want him, he will crawl on his hands and knees to the ring because old school is cool. He offers Chris his hand, but gets kicked in the knee and knocked to the mat. Jericho leaves Roddy down on the mat and walks out of the arena. Todd Grisham is backstage with Orton and asks him about Shane’s announcement earlier tonight. Randy says he has no problem facing Shane and his friends won’t be present tonight and we go to commercial break.

Jamie Noble is in the ring and tells the fans that Wrestlemania is a beautiful thing and everyone knows that the day after No Way Out is the road to Wrestlemania. Jamie wants to go to Wrestlemania and says when his moment comes, he will not fumble and he will not back down and Kane’s music begins.

Jamie Noble vs. “The Big Red Machine” Kane

The ref calls for the bell, Noble goes after Kane, Kane delivers a choke slam and gets three.

Winner: Kane with a choke slam.

Lawler said the match lasted sixteen seconds. I did not time it, but it was shorter than Noble’s speech prior to the match. Cole says that JBL will be making a historic announcement and we see JBL with a nice shiner heading toward the arena. We go to commercial break.

John Bradshaw Layfield enters the ring. For those of you who missed the pay per view, JBL lost to “Heartbreak Kid” Shawn Michaels and HBK is no longer beholden to Layfield. JBL makes that announcement to the fans and tells them that he wrote Shawn a great big check last night and he is financially stable. John wants to do something historic at Wrestlemania. He wants to end The Undertaker’s 16-0 winning streak and he is going to defeat Taker this year at Wrestlemania. Michaels enters the arena to a standing ovation from the fans and makes his way to the ring. Shawn tells Layfield that he is looking at “Mr. Wrestlemania” and he is free at last from JBL. HBK wants to face The Undertaker at the next big event. We see Orton kick Vince, almost kick Stephanie and kick Shane and we go to commercial break.

Rey Mysterio vs. Mike Knox

If you missed Mysterio in the Elimination Chamber Match, he put on an awesome performance for the fans. I am surprised he is working tonight after the workout he had last night. The bell rings and Knox immediately starts pounding on Mysterio. Mike covers and gets two. Rey gets thrown through the ropes and to the floor and we go to commercial break.

Back to the action, Mysterio is down on the mat, makes it to his feet and is down again. Knox covers and gets two. Mike misses a corner squash and Rey takes advantage but gets caught in a tilt a whirl backbreaker and kicks out at two. Knox slings Mysterio into the corner as the crowd calls for the 619. Mike applies a bear hug but Rey elbows his way out and delivers a bulldog and then a kick to the head, delivers the 619. Mysterio gets caught when he tries to springboard, Knox ties Mysterio up in the corner but Rey gets out of the way, delivers a roll up and gets three.

Winner: Rey Mysterio with a roll up.

Nice finish to what appeared to be a beat down of Mysterio. I hope Rey has a good massage therapist. He worked nearly as hard tonight as he did last night at the pay per view. Santino Marella is backstage with “The Glamazon” Beth Phonenix and Rosa and we go to commercial break.

WWE Women’s Championship Match: Melina © vs. “The Glamazon” Beth Phoenix with Santino Marella and Rosa

For some reason, Beth appears to be upset with Santino and keeps slapping his arm away from her. The ref calls for the bell and Phoenix slams Melina into the corner and then to the mat, going for a quick cover getting one. Beth again covers and this time gets two. The Glamazon slings Melina off the ropes, covers and gets two. Melina goes for a bulldog but Beth turns it into a backbreaker, covers and gets two. Melina ends up on the floor and Phoenix distracts the ref but the women from the back come down to beat up Marella. Beth rolls Melina back in, Melina goes for a roll up and gets three.

Winner: Melina with a roll up.

Fortunately this match was short. Cole and Lawler remind the audience that “Stone Cold” Steve Austin is the first inductee in the Class of 2009 WWE Hall of Fame. The second and third inductees are Dory Funk, Jr. and Terry Funk. They will be inducted by Dusty Rhodes and we go to commercial break.

We see a replay of Edge and Cena at the beginning of tonight’s show and then we see Stephanie backstage on her cell phone and we go to commercial break.

Next week HBK will face JBL and the winner of that match will face The Undertaker at Wrestlemania.

Unsanctioned Match: Shane McMahon vs. Randy Orton

Unless this show runs over the time limit, we have about 5 minutes of sanctioned time for this unsanctioned match. Shane gets tired of waiting for Randy to make his way to the ring so he goes out after him and the match is on the floor. Orton gets over the guardrail but Shane dives off the rail to take him down to the floor. McMahon slams Randy into a second guardrail, grabs a bottle of water, removes the cap and nails Orton in the head. Randy fights back, slamming Shane headfirst into the guardrail and they head back toward the ring with Orton sending McMahon over the guardrail to the floor. Shane meets the steel steps headfirst. Randy rolls McMahon back into the ring and spends a little time kicking him around before pounding on him again. Back out on the floor, Shane charges and sends Orton over the announcer’s table, pummels him with fists and beats on him with one of the announcer’s chairs. McMahon has the bell and he nails Randy in the head as Randy gets to his feet. Shane picks Orton up, and drags him back to the ring to roll him inside. McMahon sets Randy up in the corner, nails him in the back of the head with the bell and grabs a steel chair, which he sets across Orton’s face and then goes across to climb up to the top turnbuckle. Dibiase and Rhodes appear to knock Shane off the turnbuckle and beat on him in the middle of the ring. Cody delivers a neck breaker and Randy is back to his feet as the crowd shouts encouragement to Shane. Orton backs up his two buddies, then he backs up into the corner to deliver the kick to the head of McMahon. Stephanie is now in the ring checking on Shane, better late than never, a c-collar is called for, Orton doesn’t look sorry, Stephanie is back to her feet and is yelling at Randy and he delivers an RKO to Stephanie. Both McMahons are now down on the canvas and this time Randy looks a little confused but Triple H charges into the ring and the three head up the ramp. Nothing like having Trips mad at you, is there Randy? HHH does not look happy. I may actually enjoy what appears to be an up and coming feud.

Winner: Since it was an unsanctioned match with no referee, I am assuming that Orton wins since Shane can’t get back to his feet.
