A Look Back at the TTM Project

News

Last May, I sent cards out to 18 baseball players to keep track and document what I got. I’m at the point where I’m giving up on the waiting. Here are the results…

The Good…
Chris Perez, 3/3, 4 days.
Hank Aaron, 1/1, 7 days.
Jess Todd, 1/1, 8 days.
Max Scherzer, 1/1, 11 days.
John Danks, 1/2, 14 days.
Livan Hernandez, 2/3, 14 days.
Matt Wieters, 1/1, 14 days.
Ryne Sandberg, 1/1, 24 days.
Mark McCormick, 2/2, 55 days.
Joe Smith, 2/2, 55 days.
Ubaldo Jimenez, 1/2, 130 days.

The Bad…
Adrian Cardenas – I don’t know if I didn’t get him because he doesn’t sign, or if because he was traded.
Ross Detwiler – I’m one of the few that haven’t gotten him. I may try again.
Sean Doolittle – I didn’t know his signing habits; it appears he doesn’t sign his mail.
Jason Heyward – It was a risky one to send to, but I have more of his cards so I’m not worried about losing 1 in the mail.
Matt LaPorta – He’s still hit or miss; unfortunately I’ve missed him twice. He was traded shortly after this was sent.
Dustin Pedroia – It was a long shot; he’s even less likely to sign now.
Miguel Tejada – It looks like I just missed the rush and he stopped signing.

The Ugly…
– Rumor has it the Hank Aaron is ghost signed (signed by a Braves secretary).
– The Scherzer and Wieters weren’t rubbed down well enough, so the autos are streaky. I’m going to have take the signature off and try again (on glossy cards, finger nail polish removes autographs in sharpie).

The Stats…
I sent to 18 players; I received 11 back for 61% success rate – pretty good in my mind (I’m sitting close to 50% for everything I’ve sent).

I sent a total of 31 cards total; I received 16 back signed for a success rate of 52%. That’s just under my 47% success rate for total items sent.

I’m pretty happy with the return here, other than the ghost signed Aaron – that just seemed too good to be true. It makes me think that sending to Spring Training will be good this year. I’ll post whom I’m sending to and the results in the next month or so.
