Marks: the new “it-guy” for big budget fair.

Justin Marks has come on board to rewrite Disney’s 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: Captain Nemo.

The film will be an origin story for Nemo as he creates his warship, the Nautilus. Characters from the Jules Verne novel and the 1954 action film, that was the first live action film made by Walt Disney, will also appear. The studio is fast-tracking the project so that McG will direct.

Nemo is the latest pop culture notch in Marks’ belt after penning scripts for He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, Voltron: Defender of the Universe, Street Fighter: The Legend Of Chun-Li and Green Arrow. The first draft was penned by Bill Marsilii.

Disney hopes to make the film this year so that it is McG’s follow up to Terminator: Salvation.
