Scrubs will end for the season — and possibly for good — with an hour-long episode in May.
ABC has scheduled the episode, fittingly titled “My Finale,” for Tuesday, May 6. Series creator Bill Lawrence has said the finale will deal with J.D. (Zach Braff) deciding to leave Sacred Heart Hospital and take a job closer to his son.
When ABC picked up the show from NBC last spring, Lawrence and Braff both said this season, the show’s eighth, would be their last. There has been some talk that Scrubs might continue without them, but modest ratings since its January premiere — back-to-back episodes on Tuesdays have averaged only about 5.1 million viewers — have dampened that talk some.
Lawrence is staying in the ABC fold, however, writing and executive producing a pilot called Cougar Town for Courtney Cox, who guested on Scrubs at the start of the season.
Scrubs moves to 8 p.m. ET Wednesdays starting March 18, where it will be paired with new comedy Better Off Ted.
