Dakota Fanning to play rock star.

Disc Announcements, News

Dakota Fanning is negotiating to play lead singer Cheri Currie in The Runaways, the biopic of the ’70s all-girl rock band that already has Twilight star Kristen Stewart playing Joan Jett.

The film has been written by Floria Sigismondi who will also direct. The film begins production in late spring.

At 15 years old, Fanning is the same age Currie was when she made her debut with The Runaways as the lead singer who belted out songs like their big hit “Cherry Bomb” making her a perfect choice for the role… age wise that is. Currie got caught up in drugs and a hard-partying lifestyle.

Joan Jett is serving as executive producer.

Fanning most recently starred in The Secret Life of Bees and Push as well as the controversial Hounddog. She also provided the voice for the lead in Coraline and is booked to play a vampire in the Twilight sequel New Moon.

On top of her role in Twilight Stewart stars in the up coming comedy Adventureland.
