Catherine Hardwicke To Stay With Summit Entertainment

Disc Announcements, News

Fresh off the success of the tween vampire flick, Twilight, director Catherine Hardwicke decided not to direct the sequel New Moon and moved on. But, it seems, not that far as her new film, a fantasy-drama titled If I Stay is being produced by the same company, Summit Entertainment.

Twilight grossed $380 million worldwide.

Director Chris Weitz has taken the helm of New Moon.

If I Stay will be based on Gayle Forman’s novel of the same name, due to be published this spring by Dutton Children’s Books. The story centers on a gifted classical musician and her indie rock star boyfriend who’s forced to choose between life and death when she’s in a car accident with her family.

Foreign book rights have sold in 18 countries.

Despite what seemed to be a contentious battle after Twilight, president of production, Erik Feig said, “When we were thinking of the perfect director to capture the emotion, grace and passion of this beautiful book, one filmmaker became the clear and only choice: Catherine Hardwicke.”
