ECW Real-Time Coverage for 3/31/2009

Reviews, Shows, Top Story, TV Shows

Welcome to the EC-Dub!!!

First of all, thanks to Jake Ziegler for covering for me last week.  You did a great job and I owe you one, brother.

This is the last ECW broadcast before Wrestlemania 25 and we still don’t have a title match for the ECW belt.   I’m torn because I don’t want a match just thrown together for the event, but I also don’t want Wrestlemania to not have a ECW title match.  Let’s at least keep the perception that the strap matters.

Your hosts for tonight are Todd Grisham and Matt Striker in Dallas, TX.

Christian’s music hits and he heads down to the ring.  Captain Charisma is going to do awesome in the Money in the Bank Ladder match.  His partner, Finlay, follows down the ramp with Hornswoggle.  The two shake hands.  Mark Henry and Tony Atlas come next, and finally the Big Red Machine himself, Kane.

Christian and Finlay (w/ Hornswoggle) vs. Mark Henry (w/ Tony Atlas) and Kane

Kane and Christian start.  Christian avoids contact and unloads with some rights.  Kane whips him to the ropes and follows with a scoop slam.  Misses the elbow.  Christian tries to get some offense but Kane throws him to the corner.  Misses and elbow and Christian hits a missile dropkick of the second rope.  Tag to Finlay who starts working on Kane’s arm.  Kane fights out but gets kicked going for a back body drop.  Christian tagged back in and hits the arm from the top.  Irish whips Kane to the ropes who puts Christian down with a shoulder block.

Commercial.

We’re back and Kane just unloaded on Finlay with an uppercut.  Striker tells us that Kane has been in control since break.  Mark Henry is tagged in and the World’s Strongest Man is working Finlay over on the mat.  Cover for two.  Kane tags in and kicks Finlay in the corner.  Dropkick off the ropes.  Cover for two.  Chinlock.  Hornswoggle is trying to rally the crowd.  Finlay is fighting his way out but Kane powers him back to the corner.  Henry tags in and scoop slams Finlay.  Stomp to the head.  Big right hand.  Finlay trying to fight but a headbutt puts him down.  Kane back in.  Whip to the corner and Kane runs into the boots!  Finlay with a DDT!  He makes the hot tag to Christian who unloads on Kane but gets stopped by an uppercut.  Kane tags in Henry.  He goes for the World’s Strongest Slam but he slips out and takes out the knee.  Both men dropkick Henry.  Then they hit Kane on the outside.  Henry double clotheslines both men.  Christian whipped to the corner but he hits Henry with a boot.  He goes to the top rope, and gets caught!!  World’s Strongest Slam!! 1,2,3.

Winners:  Mark Henry and Kane.  Pretty good opener.

Postmatch, Henry takes out Kane and stands tall alone in the center of the ring.

Yet another preview for John Cena’s movie, 12 Rounds and commercials.

We’re back and we get a video package of the upcoming Shawn Michaels/Undertaker match this weekend at Wrestlemania.  I’m really looking forward to this one.  No way Michaels breaks the streak but they’ll put on a great show.  “Sometimes it’s Hell trying to get to Heaven.”  Great line.

Commercial.

We’re back and now it’s a video package for the Cena vs. Edge vs. Big Show World Title match at Wrestlemania.  I really hope Edge retains as another John Cena title reign holds zero interest for me.  But the Vickie Guerrero/Edge/Big Show love triangle is getting really old.  Big Show with the strap is somewhat interesting but I think it’s very limited in its future.

Another commercial break.

Now we get a look back at Wrestlemania 23 followed by yet another video package.  You guessed it… the Randy Orton/Triple H feud.  Orton has done such an awesome job propping himself up as the top heel in the industry right now.  The Triple H/McMahon run in last night on Raw was pretty sweet, too.

Commercial break.

We’re back and Nikki Bella heads to the ring with Miz and John Morrison.  Her twin Brie heads to the ring soon after with Carlito and Primo Colon.

The Battle of the Bella’s

Nikki Bella (w/ The Miz and John Morrison) vs. Brie Bella (w/ the Colons)

The start arguing in the ring.  Brie looks confused.  She rolls up Nikki for a one count.  Pushing back and forth.  Spear by Nikki.  Brie turns her over and but can’t bring herself to hit her sister.  Nikki with a knee to the gut.  Elbow to the head.  Whip to the ropes but Brie counters with an armdrag.  Nikki punches Brie.  Brie sends Nikki to the corner but Nikki fights her off.  Suplex and a cover for two.  To the corner again and Nikki gets some knees in and then a snap head toss to the mat.  Brie fights back and gets a dropkick.  Bulldog from Brie.  Miz and Morrison on the ring mat and the Colons chase them off.  Meanwhile, Nikki rolls up a distracted Brie and gets the three count.

Winner: Nikki Bella.  That was ten minutes I’ll never get back.

End of show.  Really the worst ECW I’ve seen since I can remember.  It was really just a commercial for Wrestlemania 25 as the majority of the show was revisiting the storylines that lead up to the big pay-per-view.  Having the Bella twins fight it out as the main event is just insulting.

Well kids, it looks like we won’t have an ECW title match at Wrestlemania.  Should still be a great show, though.

Until next week.
