Ask Brooke & Murtz: Survivor: Tocantins – Episode 5

Murtz: Haha. I obviously wasn’t the happiest to hear Sydney talking about her man! I don’t think any single guy watching the show was. But my heart beats for Candace this season. Didn’t you hear? All the other girls are taken!

Brooke: I know! Slim pickings! Speaking of relationships, do you think Spencer made the right choice hiding his homosexuality? Or, do you think it cost him because he never really fully connected with his team since he was holding back a big secret?

Murtz: I definitely think Spencer made the right call. There’s no sense in volunteering any info you think will effect the stereotype of other players. It’s no different than someone hiding what they do for a living. Did you hear he was dating Todd???

Brooke: You are the gossip Queen Murtz! I love it. No, I didn’t hear about their new relationship status. So it looks like Spencer did okay in the grand scheme of things, despite getting voted off so early. Todd was his consolation prize :). Which makes me wonder… if you could have any Survivor as your “consolation prize” Murtz, who would it be???

Murtz: That is the most loaded question ever. No Survivor girl is a consolation prize, except maybe Debb Eaton. Brooke, ew… fix my mental image. You have to! I am going to have nightmares!!!!

Brooke: I only meant “consolation prize” as in- you get any girl you want instead of the million!!! I was expecting a Candice or Parvati-ish type answer. (How’s that for a better image to focus on?) Seriously though Murtz, you disappoint! You’re not as quick to womanize as I would expect. Better pick up your game before next episode!!!

THIS WEEK’S BEST PLAYER

STEPHEN

Murtz: I have to say that Stephen definitely had his best episode of the season. I think the best part about it was that he reaps all the benefits of the secret alliance, while not assuming any of the responsibility. He was pulled in by Taj and she will take all the heat. Similarly, since he didn’t ask to go to Exile Island, nobody will suspect his involvement. As a result, he has virtually earned himself an alliance without doing anything. And we can’t forget that Stephen still has JP on his current tribe. He has allies everywhere and no enemies. Whereas I once thought this guy was going nowhere with his dorky confessionals, I now believe he should be given a lot more credit.

Brooke: In just two short episodes I think Stephen has virtually secured himself a final four finish. He also gets my respect for being ready to keep the idol for himself instead of returning it to Taj. Always put yourself first in this game!!! It’s smart too to be wary of Brendan. Stephen knows that Brendan would be a huge threat to his end game. I am always amazed at how many Survivors don’t think two-steps ahead in the game. Keep it up Stephen! I want to give honorable mention to Tyson this week, whose instincts served him well when he put a target on Brendan’s back and made the even wiser decision to keep Sierra out of the loop. He also gets the credit for his team’s comeback in the immunity challenge. Too bad he’s just so dang cocky!

THIS WEEK’S WORST PLAYER

TAJ

Brooke: So I really really really like Taj, but I think she blew it this week. Overconfidence has proved fatal time and time again in this game! (Isn’t that right James (China) and Erik (Fans vs. Favorites)?). Mistake #1- Taj was out of her mind to hand physical possession of the immunity idol over to Stephen. She formed a brilliant alliance, but then stupidly put too much trust in one of the members. ::Here’s a hint for you Taj- follow Stephen’s lead and ALWAYS PUT YOURSELF FIRST:: Mistake #2- getting mouthy with her team members. Sure, it’s hot and miserable in the game of Survivor, but you never get an excuse to attack your own tribe before tribal council and tell them, “Everybody can kiss my ass.” Her post-merge alliance is worthless if she gets herself voted off before the merge. You have to agree with me on this Murtz! It’s a no-brainer.

Murtz: Hmm. You are definitely more anti-Taj this week than me. I do agree with you that she isolated herself from her tribe without reason. But I actually think she made the right move by giving Stephen the idol, at least temporarily. It will avoid her being searched (which has become Survivor common practice these days). That being said, I talked to Jonny Fairplay about the move and he said it might have been smarter for Stephen to take her idol and vote her out to keep the idol for himself. Not sure how I feel about that. In any event, Taj didn’t have a good week. But neither did Brandon. Picking Stephen out of nowhere to go to Exile might have solidified their bond, but CLEARLY tipped their hand. Tyson immediately picked up on it. Suffice to say, while I think Stephen benefits the most… Taj and Brandon are definitely not looking as good as they did last week!
