CM Punk Talks WWE, Sacrifice, Dealing With Pain, The Wrestler

Money in the Bank winner CM Punk talked about his WWE run in an interview with his hometown paper, the Chicago Tribune.

Writer Luis Arroyave’s story starts with his cameo appearance at ‘Mania 22 in Chicago and goes back to touch on his high school days, training with Ace Steel, and working the indies and ROH before hitting his WWE run fully. He talks a lot about the sacrifice wrestlers make, and how that sacrifice culminated in his World Heavyweight Championship win:

“I had my career flash before my eyes,” Brooks said. “It made all sacrifice and every single [thing] I missed worth it.”

Later that night, he went back to his hotel room with the belt.

“It was kind of a lonely thing,” Brooks said. “My night always ends in a hotel room by myself. I turned my phone off, no TV on, and just sat there for a long 15 minutes staring at it.”

He also talked about how he copes with pain without pain killers:

“If I’m hurt, I’ll take a nap,” Brooks said. “Or I’ll take a weekend off.

He acknowledges that many wrestlers don’t do that because they’re afraid of losing their spot.

He also shared his thoughts about the Wrestler (he loved it and thought it accurately portrayed the sacrifice wrestlers go through), commented on the choices that have lead to the desperate situation Randy Robinson finds himself in in the movie, talked about being a role model, and more.
