Piper And Lawler Talk Wrestlemania At SI, Hart Slams Rourke Appearance

News

Three Hall of Famers share thoughts on ‘Mania. One of them slams “the Ram’s” Wrestlemania moment (It’s Jimmy Hart; I’m not gonna go total bait and switch).

SI’s Arash Markazi has a write up on ‘Mania 25. It features Roddy Piper reflecting on how big Wrestlemania’s become, and how he never expected it to last 25 years when he main evented the first one. He also said this would be his last Wrestlemania.

Meanwhile, Jerry Lawler’s waiting for his first ‘Mania match, saying he first approached Vince McMahon about wrestling on the show two years ago, with Vince saying he didn’t want to rush an angle for Lawler’s in-ring ‘Mania debut. For instance, he expected that he’d wrestle Jericho this year:

“I keep thinking any minute, boy, one of these nights we’re going to be announcing what kind of big match we’re going to be in,” Lawler said. “And the next thing you know, WrestleMania comes and goes again and no match for me.”

Jimmy Hart is also quoted on his thoughts on the Rourke/Jericho confrontation. He didn’t care for it:

“That’s it? That’s like going to a movie and it breaks at the end.”
